  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

please make the blades in your cutters from polished surgical steel, will be alot sharper, resharpen-able. they will be better looking and I think thicker, and heavier blades that have a little heft will be easier to manipulate and get an even more controlled cut.

any thoughts

My thoughts...

What type(s) of cutters have you been using that have been so subpar that you're requesting manufactureres to change their production? If it's a cheapo $3 throw away cutter you grabbed at the POS counter at your local B&M, then I wouldn't be surprised.

Big name cutters like Xikar and Palio, while I have no idea if they use surgical steel, are pretty damn sharp. And they self-sharpen everytime you open and close the blades. If you're looking for something more than what these two can provide, I would love to know why. Just my $0.02.

I have a xikar and a colibri that work.... sometimes i just want something higher end. I am not really sold on the whole self sharpening thing and yeah they feel sharp but sometimes i get that ledge cut and I'm disappointed.

Current cigar cutters like the ones on the marked maybe cost 4 dollars to make and sold for 30-60 dollars. seems lame to me, if I had a larger (Table top) cutter that was solid surgical steel and had some serious heft to it, That i could resharpen to a crazy sharpness and was polished up to that surgical tool mirror finish that could cut your fingers off with no problem i would pay more for it easily. (not that i want to chop fingers off).

Not too mention it would look awesome lol.. think of a double guillotine cutter with each beefy handle and blade being one piece of Surg steal and then a beefy frame that is screwed together to hold and facilitate the slide and have the tolerances super tight to no side to side movement what so ever. they could dress em up with brass or engraving etc...

Man i may have to go to a machine shop to make and then patent this idea

If I remember correctly Palio started out making surgical instruments. Surgical steel in no way makes it heavier as because they use good steel they are able to make the blades thinner thus giving a better cut. Sharpening your own blades would not be something I would expect most makers to be too enthusiastic as most people cannot sharpen a knife properly and curved blades would make it worse. Buy surgical steel are you meaning s60v? There are better steels out there I would love to see some one step up to a crazy s90v, s120v or my first choice zdp189. None of those should ever dull if only used for proper purpose. My Palio never has either tho.

My point, more or less.

Just use a Palio. Best cutter out there imho, maintains its sharpness and lifetime warranty from an American Company!
