I recently (as of today) got into shaving with a trusty old safety razor -- you know, the kind that uses the little two-sided razor blades.

My dad used to rave about these, but still uses the store brand disposables.

I decided to give it a try after suffering for years, no matter what wet shaving system I used (last was Mach 3).

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

I picked up a Merkur safety razor handle, Derby blades and a el-Cheap-o badger hair brush. I use Col. Conk's shaving soap (Bay Rum scent).

Word to the wise, really follow the advice of NO PRESSURE! Man, those things are sharp. Way sharper than the Mach 3.

Anyway, I found mantic59's YouTube channel VERY helpful with learning how to shave this new (old) way.

Here are his sites:

Also, this site is useful:

http://retrorazor.com/

Both of these guys are on Twitter: @mantic59 and @RetroRazor. I'm on Twitter too at @johnmartinez. Follow me and I'll follow back!

Who else Retro shaves around here?

John

I still use an old, military 3-piece safety razor. I never cared for any of the injector types or disposables.
