  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

No worries .....we all have questions............cigars can be kept for a long long time if they are kept at the proper humidity and temp. Same goes with the books from the 40's if they were kept at proper conditions they would also be in good shape..

Yep, some oldies survive great and smoke great, some survive great and smoke bland, you never know. The odds of ever finding a smoke that old that has been stored well the whole time is close to nil, but if you put them in a humidor at about 60/65 for six months to a year you might be bringing back a real winner. after you bring them back 70/70 is fine, but don't go much higher or you risk mold.

So if come cigars are not properly humidified for an extensive period of time, say, a month or two under the below 50%RH, the cigars can be restored?

So unless really badly stored in a desert like environment, I guess the cigars enter into an almost dormant period?

By the way, what a collection of vintage cigars!

I wonder if non-cubans age well.

Cigars are like wine.....some age well and some do not. I t does not matter where they are from. ...Its like saying only French wine ages well but wine from Australia will not and as we know that is not the case.

Yes, but it does matter what type of wines from Australia and France. Certain regions are better at certain wines. Certain wines, as Port, Maderia, Merlot, Bordeaux, and Cabs age better and are really intended for such. Most whites and others are meant to have a drinking window within 1-5 years.

I thin the oldest Ccigar I ever smoked was maybe 8 years old, it had the most character and blend of flavors and nuisances.

You are correct....the key phrase in my statement was "some age well and some do not"......I think that covers what you just said....correct me if I wrong...................

Nope, you are correct. I was just trying to explain that in my experience the cigars that aged and smoked the best were from a certain small island as in the OP.
