  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cigar: Ashton VSG Eclipse Tubo (6 x 52)

Cost: I don't remember

Drink: Coke (The best cola)

Appearance: This cigar comes in a metal tube. The wrapper is a bit rough. I am giving the appearance a 5/10.

Pre-Light: I get a bit of cocoa on the pre-light draw.

Construction: The draw was pretty loose. When I cut the head, the wrapper cracked around the head which is strange because I store my cigars at 65% RH and I never have this problem

Taste of the cigar: I tasted a little bit of chocolate and it also tasted a little bit nutty. The flavor seemed to be lacking. I smoked about 1.5" and then I put it out.

Strength: This is a medium bodied cigar.

Summary: I have never cared for Ashton VSG's. I have tried so hard to like them because a lot of people like them. These in my opinion are not worth the cost. There are so many better smokes out there that cost a lot less. I am never going to buy this cigar again. I give this cigar a 2/10.

This made me laugh my ass off, love the humor you tied in

For what its worth, I share similar feelings to you over the VSG. I've had a couple and it really doesn't feel to me as if the cost is worth it.

I've smoked a couple fresh, and wasn't a fan. Very muddled smoke. With some age, they are pretty complex.

Loved this review, Dan. I too find it funny that the VSG is classified as a full-bodied cigar, and that back in the day that was a big deal. I too find it medium or maybe medium-full if it's a strong one. I smoke them in the morning.

I do like the VSG, though. I don't love them, as I find the flavor to be lacking ... but the flavors are good. It's not a "think about the cigar" stick, it's a "think about nothing and relax" stick, to me at least. It's a clean palate cigar, though, to be sure. I also agree that they improve with age.

I'm impressed in a way that you just tossed the thing. I'll admit that when it comes to expensive cigars, I'll keep smoking it even if I'm not loving it, just to try to get my money's worth (and in the hopes that it improves).

Enjoyed the review. I had this cigar this past Sunday as a recommendation from a friend of mine. Overall I liked the smoke but I found myself wanting more out of the cigar. I would smoke it again though however. :chat:

Yeah, I used to be like that and then I thought: Why waste my time with it when there is better stuff to smoke. Also, if I am going to risk my health, I ain't doing it with a cigar I am not enjoying.

I feel the exact same way word for word. Why smoke some cheap, barely enjoyable stick when I'm raising my health risks even if they are only small percentage raises? If I'm going to smoke something, I'm going to do it right.

Oh no, now that I think of it, the ones I have smoked, I picked up at the B&M and they were well aged with plume all over them! DAMN! Now I have to age the ones I just picked up! DAMMIT

Really?? He said the cigar sucked and put it out after an inch and a half!! Did you actually read it or just copy and paste your normal reply?
He gave a fair and honest opinion of his experience with that smoke, regrettably for him it was not a good cigar, so why wasn't it a fine review....just because it was negative! :scratchhe

....and since "you" opened the door, what the hell do you care about what I post anyway! :dunno:
