The Camacho Coyolar (aka black) Figurado 6 x 54 was the second cigar of the morning we were given to smoke and discuss. I can honestly say I haven't smoked a Camacho in at least a year and didnt know what to expect. The Coyolar gets its name from the area in Hondurus where the tobacco is grown, and is supposedly the first cigar made by Camacho using tobacco from outside their farm. It is also supposedly the strongest cigar made by Camacho. We shall see
The cigar seems to made well. Its firmly packed with no visible defects and again a simple but nice looking band. There are some veins or lumps under that wrapper that give it a bumpy feel but nothing to bad. I cut the cap and the pre-light draw was dominated by an earthy taste. No pepper or anything really specific.
I lit it up and got nothing but a dull (dried leaves and grass) sort of taste. The draw was right on and the smoke output was outstanding. I'm thinkin ok kinda flat but not bad and then all of the sudden i hear a pop
the wrapper had split about 1" above the burn line.
I kept smoking and this thing kept growing. At one point that section of the cigar swelled to about the size of a quarter or just a bit bigger!
Amazingly enough I kept smoking and was patient with the cigar. I didnt have to touch it with a lighter or do anything else to it and it eventually burned through the swelled area and never exploded.
I smoked this right up to the bottom of the band before I had to go and the total smoking time was about 1.5 hours. I was so wrapped up in watching the cigar come undone that I didnt pay as much attention as I should have to actually reviewing the flavors. I can tell you 3 things for sure. There were 5 of us that smoked these same cigars and mine was the only one that had any issues. There were a few fleeting moments of pepper or any other memorable flavor spike other than the flat earthy taste at the start. And finally that the strength of this cigar comes in slowly. I didnt realize until I got up from the table just how light headed I was. Overall I was impressed that the cigar didnt completely explode, BUT it shouldnt have had the issue to begin with. The MSRP on this one is around $6 and probably worth that if it didnt have the flaw mine did. All in all it was an ok cigar but not something I would buy because I generally prefer Nicaraguan cigars.
