  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ok, I lied and smoked the cigar this evening.

Unfortunately I was not at a place to really smoke the cigar for the flavors since I was at a bar, but it was enjoyable none the less.

Appearance: 14/15
This was a beautiful cigar, real nice dark wrapper, a little veiny, but really a good looking smoke

Ash: 6/10
The ash was not the best I’ve ever seen. In fact it needed to be ashed more often that I personally like to ash my cigar. It did not flake, but was not exactly sturdy.

Draw: 9/10
Great draw. Slightly deliberate, but gave me a mouth full of smoke everytime.

Burn: 7/10
The burn was decent. I did need to touch it up every now and then, and towards the end of the smoke I had to relight twice before letting it die.

Smoke: 10/10
There was plenty of smoke with this cigar. In fact every time I took a draw I got a ton of smoke.

Flav/Blend: 16/20
The flavor was a nice an bold. It had strong pepper flavors and earthy tons to compliment. I thought is was nice with the scotch I was drinking.

Uniq: 7/10
I thought this was fairly unique in the fact that it was really peppery to me. Not too many cigars pull this off without being overbearing, but this one did.

Finish: 13/15
This cigar has finished nicely. In fact, I can barely taste it anymore and I just smoke it about an hour ago. I would definitely buy another and keep these in my cigar rotation when I want a nice peppery cigar.

Overall Score: 82

Alright guys Tonight I present to you cigar number 5 in review contest, the Illusione Cg4. This cigar had a really beautiful silky smooth wrapper with a nice contrasting white band almost like a black and white photo. The pre-light aroma was a little ammoniac, but was much improved since I opened the box in January. The ash was grey and stacked almost perfectly throughout and it was decently sturdy as well, as it stood up to a couple of accidental bumps of the elbow. It ashed itself at about a third of the way through each section of the cigar. The draw was deliberate and smooth through the entire smoke, which made for a nice relaxing smoke through the evening. It burned majestically until the last third when I had to touch up one side a little. The smoke was thick throughout and had a nice smooth lingering character. The cigar was medium bodied with a nice leathery core that had a marrow like texture too it like the center of a properly prepared oso buco. There were hints of unprocessed cocoa that seemed to coat the core flavor through most of the cigar that made for a very consistent profile throughout the smoke. I smoked this bad boy until there was about an inch left on it when it went out on me and I decided that my lust had been satisfied for the evening. I thought this cigar as very good from a aste stand point and it had the consistency I expect from a Nicaraguan puro, but it wasn’t the most unique cigar I’ve smoked as it didn’t really progress in its profile throughout. I enjoyed this cigar quite a bit, and I think with time they will improve a great deal. I can definitely see potential in this cigar and for the price it’s a great buy.

Wow, didn't expect that. I was thinking it had elements of an 858 and some RP stuff. Couldn't put my finger on alot of stuff, but I really thought I had smoked this cigar before. I've got 2 more Illusions that I'll have to try.

I thought this one was appropiate to see if everyone really would see all the rave in these cigars if they werent banded. It ended up probably being one of the most consistent cigars among the group of us which says quite a bit. Almost everyone said they would smoke it again. Im really interested to see what you guys think of #6!!!!:smokingme

I've never had this stick before, but I'm glad to know what it is.

I was noticing the consistently good scores too; that seems really rare for this contest, and I wonder why. I'm stoked about #6 though. Too bad I don't have the funds to join contest #2.

Me too, This has been fun, I hope it continues though the year. Maybe on the next one, we could do some lower end smokes. Like reviews bundled smokes, or smokes that are not more than $100 a box. You know, stuff the everyday guy can afford for everyday smokes. Maybe even house blends from different sites.
