So to start with, I'm not the biggest Cusano fan and they arent in my normal rotation. This happened to be a christmas gift from my wife via a BOTL working in a great shop that thought I would appreciate the cigar as something off the beaten path. He was right.
Here is a brief on the Cusano 15th courtesy of the www.
The Cusano 15th Anniversary Lancero commemorates Cusano's 15 years of cigar excellence. The slim Lancero shape allows for a high wrapper-to-filler ratio, so the nuances of the peppery hybrid wrapper shine through and complement the spicy, chocolatey Nicaraguan ligero and Dominican viso, seco, and ligero filler tobaccos. Production of this top shelf stogie is limited to 2,000 boxes of 15.
Wrapper: Natural
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Strength: Full Bodied
MSRP: $9.30
Started this smoke at 5:40 and paired it with a nice Washington Cabernet from '03. It is finished off with a pigtail cap and the construction is flawless. No veins and packed firm. Prelight draw is perfect for my taste and burns my lips with strong pepper already!
The Wine!
The Cigar!!
Initial thoughts after lighting are smooth draw with a TON of pepper!! Strong wood and hay flavors. Some background flavors of allspice or maybe cinamon. I'm not that refined to tell.
2" in and the spice has mellowed but still there. Wood and leather flavors are the most dominant. Lots of smoke with a very creamy finish.
1/2 way through and the flavors have mellowed. The burn and draw remain perfect and the ash is dark gray and flakey staying on for about 1 1/2" at a time before dropping.
Final 1/3 burned through very nice. Flavors were consistant and the burn and draw were stellar.
Conclusion:
While a Cusano of any label doesnt get a ton of hype this was a solid cigar that I would have no issues referring to anyone. Total smoking time was right at 1:30 and required little effort the whole way. Step out and give it a try. If you like full bodied smokes I think you will enjoy it.
OH YAH and the wine was AMAZING!!
