This is not only one of my favorite cigars that I discovered in 2010 but also a classic sleeper. You dont hear much about it even though they have been around since 2008 and come from the same folks as the Palio cutter. I first tried this cigar at the insistance of Hal Rubin from Empire Cigars in Raleigh who finally had to give me one to get me to try it. I was extremely surprised at how much I liked it and so I thought I would share it with everyone on here.
The construction on this stick is almost perfect. It has a nice reddish brown wrapper with a triple cap that is firmly packed with no soft spots. The pre-light aroma from the foot is a sweet smelling spice. I clipped the top and the draw had a little more resistance than I normally like but was by no means tight. It lit easily (With my other lighter Larry:smile
and the intial flavors are definitely very sweet almost caramel or toffee with a bit of pepper. The smoke output is thick and heavy and the finish is very long on the tounge.
1" in and this is amazing as usual. The flavor mix between the sweet and the pepper is very enjoyable. The burn and draw are both perfect and the smoke output continues to be both plentiful and thick. The ash as you can see is very dark and flakey and doesnt last more than an inch at a time.
Just over half way through and it just keeps getting better. The flavors are transitioning into more of a woodsy / earth mix but that sweetness is still lingering in the background. The pepper has almost completely faded out but the finish on the tounge seems to be longer than earlier.
Into the final third and the flavor has made a definite change to more of a charred wood but there is no bitterness or heat at all.
The final inch of this cigar yeilded yet another change in flavor to a distinct leather taste. The first hint of heat finally came in the last half inch and finally laid it down as it started to burn my fingers.
Final thoughts:
This is a fantastic cigar. Total smoke time was about an hour and 30 minutes. While not every shop carries them they certainly arent hard to find and the search is well worth the enjoyment of the smoke. At $8 this may be a bit higher than some but in my opinion well worth it. Not only would I reccomend this cigar to anyone who likes a med-full cigar, but it is one I will never be without in my humidor.
Thanks for reading!
