  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Foundry
War of the currents-Menlo??
Pyramid
Size:?? See summary
$4.50-6.50
Burn Time 1 hour 40 minutes

Prelight aroma of Band aids & mild tobacco

First draw: Early bitterness gives way to a mild sweet tobacco & black tea, Earl Grey I believe

1st 3rd
Big shift to a strong, and I mean strong smokey woody flavor
Medium body
Bit of an uneven burn that required one touch hop

2nd 3rd
Strong wood continues with a rich creamy flavor piling on
Medium-Full body with wood flavors remaining long after the draw
Really pleasant and a chewy smoke with loooonnnggg finish

Final 3rd
Cedar coming in now with a nutty quality added to the wood, still on the tongue long after the draw
Vitamin N kicking up a bit with some lightheadedness, but nothing uncomfortable

Summary: I picked these cigars up on special as a 5-pack and was not expecting much from the sub $5 stick, but man there were some great flavors here. The strong wood flavor reminds me a little of the Leccia Black, but without that candy flavor to the smoke. At the end of the day I'm really glad I sprung for the 5 pack and can't wait to get into the other 4. Now to the conundrum, this cigar is listed as a 5x50 robusto in all the trade press and of course like most manufactures their website is horrible. There is no mention of a pyramid and the way the band was wrapped it was evident this band was not meant to wrap this shape. Sooooooo, open to opinions on what this size is. Seems like a petite corona at the tip and maybe a 48-50 at the foot.

I can't be sure of the size either, hard to tell with the taper. A couple things:

(1) I don't think I've never tasted "band-aid" on the pre-light, is that good or bad?
(2) Is it me, or is the stick dried out? I know you didn't expect much for the price, but it should at least be smokable IMO.

Thanks for the review!

Band aids neither good nor bad, just what the smell reminded me of. These mystery tobaccos used in this line are all supposed to be
Leaves most of us have never tried before, so makes sense there would be new aromas & flavors.

No the stick was fine, in my attempt to take the final image I was trying to get it to stand up and ended up crushing it.

Good review! Foundry have been a surprise hit in my shop. People love the kooky packaging and unique blends. A number of them are one offs though due to the limited supply of some tobaccos they use. On the Elements series only two sizes will be regular production.

The other time I've heard band aid used to describe a flavor was with Ardbeg, a heavily peated scotch. Maybe they were fooling around with scotch barrels or smoking peat to cure the tobacco? Total wild speculation on my part.

I'd consider the shape a pyramid. Nice review. I'd also point out that Sometimes you just smell band aids...lol. Not related to cigars but sometimes I'll smell what reminds me of bandaids, out of nowhere. I think it's just one of those scents, as a kid, just got stuck in my subconscious. It can be described as medicinal.. Which I've had in a few stick before but never as pinpointed as bandaid. Never tried a foundry myself but I just might now. Thanks for the review MD.
