Alrighty there ladies and gents,
So I had to wait to let my buzz die down from this stick before I posted my review...What a POWERHOUSE!!!
So the other day, I spent more money that I don't have on cigars. Picked up a Cain sampler from Cigarmonster, because I've heard good things about them, and love pretty much anything that comes out of a box that says Oliva on it. (even though this one doesn't)
OK this cigar is a hefty 6'' by 54 ring gauge, and had a nice torpedo finish to it. Personally, I love the torpedo vitola. I've never really had a bad draw from any torp, and I just love the way they look. Anyways, this stick is an all ligero cigar. Yep you heard right, ALL ligero! And I thought the V packed a punch! This cigar made me downright dizzy. I couldn't stand while smoking this for more than 10 minutes, and it was probably not the smartest idea smoking on an empty stomach either. OK on with the review!
Going to go back to my old review style with the big pictures...dunno why but I just want to.
This cigar is a beautiful chocolate brown with small veins. The head was a bit damaged, which is not what I would normally expect from cigarmonster, but it was a torpedo, so that part got cut off anyways. It had a nice tobacco smell to it. It was firm, with a nice medium to loose draw.
The pre-light flavor was of sweet tobacco, and it also had a nice barnyard aroma to it. There was also a bit of pepper on the tongue when I placed it to my lips.
1/3: This stick is a flat-out kick in the ass spicy kind of cigar! There is tons, and I mean tons of pepper through the nose, mixed with cedar and straight tobacco flavors. It has a long peppery finish that lingers on the back of the tongue. As the first inch develops, I'm getting a slight cocoa flavor as well. The smoke that it's letting off is really aromatic. It smells of straight leather and even spice on the ambient smoke.
2/3: The cigar went out around this point because I was talking with my buddy on the phone. It is still spicy at this point. It has some nice wood flavors. The cocoa flavors went away, and I am starting to feel the nic buzz pretty well. The finish is long and creamy now despite the spice lingering on the back of my tongue. There is a great combo of light and dark flavors. Towards the end of the second third the spice starts to fade a little, leaving just a bit more than a tingle through the retrohale.
3/3: The flavor changes a bit and starts to come through with some dark earthy flavors. Almost all the pepper in the retrohale is gone, apart from a slight tingle on the tip of my tongue. The earth lightens up a bit and is starting to caramelize. Surprisingly, it started to get a bit hot on the tongue with about an inch and a half left. Quite buzzed at this point, and the stick is getting a bit soft so I'm putting it down with just under 2" left.
This cigar was exquisite. If I like the rest of the Cain line, this might have to be my first box purchase. Or at least a couple of fivers here and there, and when I see it on the monster.
So if I had more, it would definitely be a go-to stick. I'm going to try the other cains that I have, and then see which direction I want to head for a box pick-up
Thanks for reading!!
