Alright ladies and gents,
since I enjoyed the Cain 654 Torp. habano so much, I thought I should try the maduro that I got in a sampler along with it. Nice cigar too! Very glad I decided to smoke them to close together, I got a nice comparison.
This stick is a beautiful dark chocolate brown with a slightly toothy wrapper. It cut well, and provided a nice draw which was on the looser side. The body of the cigar was very firm in the hand, and hefty too! There is a nice pre-light flavor of sweet tobacco, and some pepper immediately noticeable on the tongue. No real big veins visible either. It provided a constant razor-sharp burn, and the ash held longer than any cigar I have ever smoked.
1/3: I'm immediately getting dark earth notes of tobacco with a sweet, long finish. There is ample spice through the nose as well. The ambient smoke is deliciously sweet smelling, and has a chocolaty scent. There is also a nice, coffee-like, caramelized flavor pulling through. A bit of spice lingers in the back of the throat, but it's not at all unpleasant. The finish starts to become a bit less sweet about 1.5'' in, and is providing a cedary aftertaste that lingers long on my pallet.
2/3: The spice dies down a bit through the nose at this point. The dark chocolate and coffee flavors begin to get a bit lighter as well, and provide a sweeter mocha-like flavor with a strong woody finish. There isn't a spicy retrohale per-se anymore, but there is a spice that lingers subtly in my nasal passage. The end of the second third brings forth a slightly nutty taste, and a remarkably sweet and smooth retrohale with a touch of spice.
Very long ash...:
3/3: A rich, creamy earth flavor is introduced in the beginning of this final third. Very full flavored and full bodied up to this point, which is right up my alley. Definitely not getting the same nic buzz as I did with the habano version of this cigar. There is plenty of smoke throughout, and plenty of flavor. Now it's starting to get a slight spice on the tip of my tongue, but nothing compared to when I first sparked this bad boy up. This cigar continues to put out sweet, earthy smoke, and now a dark chocolate flavor - i'd say baking chocolate.
I really enjoyed this cigar. I'd say just as much as the habano. There is really a unique, distinct combination of flavors in this cigar, that makes me want more!
I would absolutely pick up a box if I had the funds, and the storage space. (girlfriend wouldn't be too thrilled about that though, she things I smoke too much as it is!)
Thanks for reading! :smokingbo
