  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Alright brothers and sisters,

Just arrived back at UAlbany, and was craving a nice, relaxing cigar.

I decided to smoke and review the Gurkha G5 Avenger torpedo, a stick that was gifted to me by funkejj (Thank you VERY much sir!)

These sticks run at about $10 bucks a pop.

Ok so let me start off with this. I have had a few different types of Gurkha cigars in my short cigar-smoking days. I have not been impressed with ONE that I have tried. This stick changed my mind about Gurkha not having a single cigar that I would like.

This cigar is a nice, dark brown color, with small veins in the wrapper. Very nice looking stick. It's a bit oily as well

The light was easy with no real burn problems in the beginning. It has a nice, medium draw with nice volumes of smoke.
The ash is quite flaky, and a medium to dark grey color.

Right off the bat it taste coffee with an undertone of earth and spice. Very pleasant taste, and it seems to be quite a flavorful cigar so far.

Nice spice through the nose. Definitely not a tear-jerker though! Very pleasant taste so far, dark like coffee, and earth.

In the second third, the coffee notes faded and made room for a more smooth taste. Not quite cream, just not as prevelent spice and coffee. The earth is still there just with a touch of nuttiness.

The start of the final third really surprised me. The spice on the tip of my tongue has completely gone away, and the cigar has almost a caramel flavor to it. A very big transition from it’s earthy, coffee-like first third.

For a final, yet pleasant twist, a flavor of woodiness is present to the finish.

If you look close enough you can see me doing my econ homework in the background...not one of my favorite classes haha...

Overall, I really enjoyed this cigar. I am quite surprised that this is made by Ghurka, because I haven’t had the best experience with Gurkha cigars in the past. I generally find them to be boring, one-dimensional power-houses with little to no complexity.

I would give this stick a well-earned 88/100

Thanks everyone for reading!

Love the review and pictures.

Looks like said Gurkha had some burn problems. Can't say I'm surprised. I had a Legend that went out about three times before I finally tossed it.
