  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Alrighty ladies and gents, I'm back!!

What a nice day to start up my reviews again! I've got larengytis and my throat is KILLING me! Ok enough of that, on to the review.

Today I decided to break out a cigar that was gifted to me by Birdperk. It's a Nica Libre 1990 boxpressed torpedo. This cigar is a nice chocolate brown color with small veins throughout. Slight toothiness too if you look close enough. It has a great construction, and a very beautiful, regal look to it.

The pre-light draw has some sweet cocoa and woody flavors.

It lit up quite easily. It has a smooth draw with ample amounts of smoke. Burn was good right from the start, but this factor is going to change in about an inch or so. It has a very mild woodsy taste with cocoa undertones. These flavors are accompanied by the slightest bit of spice through the retrohale.

It has a light grey, very solid ash. As the first third begins to dwindle down, there are toasty, nutty flavors emerging. The ash is quite solid and light at this point, but I can see it is very dark, almost black in the middle. (Not sure what would cause this)

At this point, the burn becomes slightly uneven. Uneven enough that I believe that it needs a touch up. Having just recently purchased a new vector 3-flame, I wasn't quite used to the power of this lighter. Simply put, I basically torched the side of it :sadstare:

More spice begins to emerge during the second third, along with earth and caramelized wood flavors. The burn stayed pretty uneven for the remainder of the cigar.

This cigar was great for a nice day. No wind, nice and shady under the tree. Any wind and I believe this burn issue would have become a real problem. Delicious cigar nevertheless! Even had a bit of a buzz as I headed to the Campus Center to grab a cup of coffee.

Thank you very much, Birdperk for sending me this stick to review and enjoy!!

Also, thanks to everyone who reads this review...I know I haven't been around much, but classes really are kicking my butt this year.

Cell phone pics by the way...not bad huh!

Ok well that's enough blabbering by me!

Regards,

Dave

Dave, welcome back. Thanks for the review, I smoked one of these a week or so ago and have a few more to revisit. They're not bad, especially when you figure in the price!

Wow, this looks delicious. I have to admit i'm a sucker for looks at times and I have a hard time passing up a nice Boxpressed Torpedo.

Also, the phone pics look great, I never would have known the difference.

Great review bro, I did buy some of these because of the comparison to Padron. While I do like them they are not a Padron IMHO

Those pictures are better than mine using a camera!

Great smoke, especially for the price. Its no Padron, and I agree that the comparison is a bit of a reach. Thanks for the review
