Rather than re-typing a bunch of info I have pasted the history of this cigar directly from the website.
These cigars are made with the legendary wrapper leaves from Chateau de la Fuente, the birthplace of a dream. Carlito Fuente made Don Arturo Gran AniverXario cigars in 2001 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Arturo Fuente Cigar Company, which was founded by his grandfather in 1912. He planned to release Don Arturo Gran AniverXario cigars every year, starting in 2002, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary. However, these cigars were never released. Don Arturo Gran AniverXario cigars have been aging in the Fuente aging room since 2001. These 7-year-old cigars are finally being released in the Limited Edition Fuente Story Humidors produced by Prometheus. 2008 is the 96th Anniversary of Arturo Fuente Cigar Company, and each Fuente Story Humidor comes with 96 Don Arturo Gran AniverXario cigars. The Natural cigar is 1/8" longer than the Sun Grown cigar, and it has a slightly larger ring gauge. These cigars were not rolled at the same time, the Natural cigar was rolled a year later.
Pre-Light
I gotta say I love the look of this cigar!! The band is amazing and the red band at the foot along with the reddish brown wrapper make it look classy as hell. The pre-light inspection reveals a reddish brown wrapper that is very well rolled with almost invisable seams. It is a bit lumpy underneath but is firm when squeezed and the smell at the foot is one of heavy barnyard. I was surprised at how much and was really wondering what the flavors were going to be. I clipped the cap and removed the red foot band so I could get it lit. Luckily they both came off cleanly with no damage to the cigar. The draw is perfect for my preference and the flavors coming through are both that same barnyard profile as well as some serious leather flavors with just the slightest bit of spice on the lips.
First 1/3
Immediately after lighting it up I'm thinking what an amazingly smooth cigar this is. The smoke output is more than abundant. 1 1/2" in and the burn is perfect. There is none of the spice I felt on the pre-light but the flavors are hay, leather, and roasted nuts. The ash is light gray and solid and holding. I have smoked the SG version as well and this is the better of the two by far in my opinion.
Second 1/3
Consistant flavors of heavy leather with some spice fading in and out. The burn is a bit erratic and requires some tending but not enough to be a problem for sure. Final end of the second 1/3 and the flavors are starting to turn more woodsy than leather.
Final 1/3
Flavor profile remained constant right to the end with the leather and woodsy flavors dominating. The burn issues corrected themselves and the remainder of the cigar was flawless.
Final Thoughts
Total smoke time was right at 2 hours. While this started out incredible it sort of faded as it went. I dont mean to say that it was anywhere near bad, it just didnt seem that it held that same stellar start all the way through. It was absolutely a great cigar and worth the experience to anyone who can get their hands on one. Thanks again to MUMike for the opportunity to share the experience with all of you.
