  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I walked into Outland in Charlotte about a month ago and found these sitting in the humidor. I had never seen them before and didnt remember seeing anything about them either. I asked if they were new and was told they were from the event they had just had and werent available for general release until the cigar show in July. With that I grabbed 3 and have had them sitting waiting to do a review. Toaday was the day. Since they arent being released until the show there isnt any info on the blend available but I wanted to share my thoughts with all of you.

Pre-Light

This cigar looks and feels incredible. I love the pigtail cap and the covered foot. The wrapper is completely free of any defects and is virtually seamless in its construction. It is firm to the touch and there are no soft spots that I could find. I get a strong peppery cocoa smell from the foot and cant wait to smoke it. The cap cup easily with no cracking or damage to the wrapper and the draw is well balanced with a hint of pepper on my lips and the distinct taste of again of cocoa along with some sweet tobacco.

Initial 1/3

The cigar easily with a well balanced draw along with quite a bit of pepper on the back of throat. The smoke is abundant while the dominat flavor suprprisingly is not the sweet tobacco or cocoa I was expecting but instead is a very creamy rich tobacco. The burn on the first 1" or so was a bit erratic but corrected and remained even.

The ash is a light gray and very dense. About 1/2 way through the first third the pepper is giving way to nice sweet almost caramel tobacco with some hints of leather.

Middle 1/3

The ash held on for about an 1 1/2" before falling off right at the start of the middle third of the cigar. As i get into this part of the cigar i'm surprised at how much it reminds me of an airbender. Not as strong but the flavors are very similar to me.

The dominant tobacco and leather flavors are there along with a bit of a sweetness but the pepper has all but disappeared.

Final 1/3

The final third is bringing some really strong espresso flavors along with the constant tobacco making for a very enjoyable smoke.

Both of the bands removed easily without damaging the wrapper and the burn as well as the draw on this cigar were perfect!!

Final Thoughts

Next to the BOTL Small Batch this is by far my favorite cigar from PDR. The flavors were great and I cant say enough about the construction and appearance. For $6 this definitely a cigar that will buy more of and look forward to seeing it in a corona size as well. Thanks for reading and enjoy your 4th!!
