Review: Pete Bomb

First I want to say that this is my first review. Then second I wanted to thank Pete once again for offering this up before it is even released...thank you! So Here we go:

Yes...the freakn sprinkler hit my car today and left the spots. Did not notice them until I previewed this...

Wrapper was a nice medium brown with just a touch of oiliness to it. Construction looks good with minimal veins and no real blemishes. It seemed as if there was a slight box press on the last 3rd of the cigar. Not sure if this is with all of them because I only had one...but it seemed to have two noticeable flat spots.

Pre-light draw was a nice blend for me. I was just loose enough for me. Knew that with the size that this would be a good 1-1.5 hour smoke. Taste had a nice hint of pepper spice and leather/earthy tones.

So this is the part where I apologize for two things...number 1 is that this is a walking review (I was walking my sub while taking notes on the treo. And number 2 is that all of the photos are from the treo.

1/3 - As you can see it produced a nice white ash. There was a nice kick of pepper spice in the first third that had underlying earthy tones. The spice was not as powerful as in the red lables but still offered a good dynamic to the first third.

2/3 - The first ash broke off right after I took the first photo that was just over and inch into the stick. The spice fell off quickly after the first third and the taste mellowed out to at first a earthy taste. It then developed into a more coffee with light cream. I know that this does not sound that good but it was a nice taste without a real strong aftertaste. Good middle to the cigar.

Final 3rd - Spice came back with a different dynamic than the first hints of spice. A little bit of a hotter (flavor...not temp) spice than in the beginning. The taste once again molded into a darker coffee flavor with a dark chocolate undertone. Almost like a espresso with just a hint of dark chocolate. This stayed true till the very end...

As you can see I took it to the very end and burnt my finger tips just after this photo. Overall I think that it was a good stick that I would give a 8 of 10. It is not as complex as some of the other sticks that Pete has offered up...but I did like it. Would I buy it...yes. But not sure if I would pull the trigger on a whole box (depending on price point).

That's an interesting idea. The only attempts I've made at pairing wines with cigars have been abysmal failures. I'd like to get more of a feel for it, though-mixing two of my favorite palate pleasers

I am with you...nothing better than a glass of wine or a good cigar. I hear you that pairing is not easy...but I am a big fan of a red (Pinot Noir or Merlot) with a Maduro wrapper...they just taste great together. I know that most people would have used coffee or water or pop...but for me all of hem kind of mix flavors together in my mouth when wine has a nice distinct flavor that can be separated from the cigar (as long as is not too fruity).

Thank you for all the props fellas! I did forgot to mention that the smoke time was about 1 hour 15 minutes...good length for a cigar walk:yes:
