Not the mad fladder!
Decided to try the new blend from Punch. Have never really been a big fan of any of the Punch line but had heard some good things at my local shop about the new Uppercut blend so I decided to give them a shot. Do not recall exactly what I paid for this stick but it was in the 6-7 dollar range for the grand corona (6inX45). The wrapper is dark brown sumatra with a swirls of black. The cap is sloppy and lopsided but cuts cleanly (sorry I did not shoot a pic).
First few puffs have a hefty amount of spice through the nose with cedar and leather. The finish is slightly acidic and dry, and the flavors turn bitter very quickly. Bitter grassy flavor mixed with burnt leather start to emerge after the first few draws (I am hoping this flavor shifts quickly).
The second third the cigar is still very bitter. Started to pick up some
bitter coffee and cocoa mixed in with the leather. Each puff leaves
the palate very dry. The bitter and dry character in the gar is really disappointing, but the stick is burning well with solid light gray ash.
Sorry to say that I did not get through the final third. The bitter and dry notes stayed constant and I threw this one out.
The first few puffs of this cigar left me with hope, but I was quickly let down. The rest of the smoke was bitter, acidic, and left the palate very dry. Sure there are some out there that enjoy this smoke (please chime in) but this flavor profile was just not for me. I will end the review on a good note.....the burn/construction was good dispite the sloppy cap (sorry only good I could come up with).
Sorry for the cell phone pics and I only snapped two shots.
