  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Tatuaje Black Petite Lancero LE

(Skip the next paragraph to get straight to the review)

This LE was created for Tobacco Grove in Minnesota, using the same blend as the Black Label. Pete plans to roll out a regular production version (without the pigtail & covered foot) along with an undecided addition (or additions) to the line at the IPCPR show in July. This is then not just another LE, but a pre-release.

Size: 6 x 38
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Sun Grown Criollo
Binder & Filler: Nicaraguan
Total production: 200 boxes

Pre Light

Nice, smooth milk chocolate colored wrapper; with a beautifully executed pigtail and covered foot. Sweet earth from the foot and wrapper. Cold draw gave up hints of chocolate and spice.

First Third

Lit easily, with a nice draw right off the bat. Initial notes of licorice/anise and some sweet vegetable flavors up front, with a background of earth and cocoa. Although this sounds odd, the finish was very much like roasted corn or ‘elote’,…the fire roasted corn on the cob found in state fairs. The aroma also had the same essence of roasted vegetables…Really intriguing. The burn was great, providing ample smoke, and a solid, light colored ash.

Second Third

The flavors increased slightly, and the anise was replaced by a significant note of black pepper. The earth, cocoa, and notes of roasted corn on the finish made up a really unique flavor profile. So much flavor and complexity from such a small vitola. The burn remained true, and the ash held nicely…Great construction.

Last Third

This cigar continued to deliver a remarkable amount of flavors and strength normally reserved for larger sizes and rings. The final third delivered strong yet balanced doses of pepper, earth, cocoa, and roasted corn. Typical of Tatuaje craftsmanship, this cigar exhibited great draw, with lots of smoke; and a flawless burn down to the nub. The only detracting factor was a slight presence of ammonia; certainly acceptable from a young cigar shipped right after being rolled.

Closing

This was a complex, balanced, and tasty smoke; with some very unique flavors running through it. I can only hope that the regular production is anything like this pre release.
