  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I walked into my local B&M yesterday to catch up from being gone all week and enjoy a good cigar while doing it. I was met at the lounge door by my buddy Mark and he asked me to try a new cigar they had just got in and see what I thought of it. I was a bit hesitant since I dont really have any experience with Augusto Reyes cigars and Dominican cigars and I tend to not agree on much. He told me he didnt have any info on the cigar other than it was a Med-Full and made in the Dominican with Nicaraguan tobacco. Well that got me interested and I said OK. So now you all know what I know about the cigar so I'll just get on with the review. (All I had was a phone for pictures so be nice)

Pre-Light

Initial thoughts on the cigar is that it is nice looking. Minimal veins and well packed. The wrapper color is nice and even and the smell of sweet tobacco from the foot are all very appealing. The graphics on the band I'm not to sure of but thats just me. The cigar clipped easily enough with no damage. The draw is perfect for my preference with just a bit of resistance and strong flavors of sweet tobacco. There is also a good bit of pepper on my lips and tongue.

First Third

Initial light up produces a lot of thick and really white smoke. Those same sweet tobacco flavors are very dominant and the pepper blast up front is really nice. Very creamy feel and an extremely long finsh. 1" in and the burn is a bit erratic, but not enough to have to touch it up. The ash is medium dark gray and appears very firm.

Middle Third

The burn as you can see is still a bit erratic and has never really straightened up but also hasnt gotten so bad that it needed correcting either. The flavor profile is making a transition from the heavy sweet tobacco in the first third to include some leather and charred wood as well now. This is a very nice cigar so far.

Final Third

In the final third the flavors turned to a solid leather and earthy profile and the pepper left with that sweet tobacco taste in the last third. The burn never did settle down into something straight. The ash was solid all the way through hanging for 1-1 1/2" at a time, and the smoke output stayed thick and white from start to finish.

Final Thoughts

On a scale of 1-10 I would probably give this a 7.5 - 8. A strong B cigar. I really enjoyed the first 2/3 but the last bit just didnt seem to hold up for me. It could have been the cigar or more the fact that I was talking on the phone more durring the final third and was just a bit more distracted. I would like to smoke another to compare just to make sure. I would certainly smoke one again if it was handed to me and I may even reach for one at that shop, but at $7 there is some stiff competition for my attention. If you see one out there give it a try.

Thanks for reading!!

Thanks for the review Marty. Seen these lately on-line but I'm not a fan of Augusto Reyes cigars. Still it's nice to here another brothers opinion because you never know.
Also I love the ashtray...LOL It looks very familiar!

I saw these the other day.... The packaging killed it form me... I understand trying to look trendy and all, but I chuckled and walked on by...... Price point didn't excite me enough to gamble on it.
