  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Viaje Exclusivo Tower Cigars 45th

(Skip the first paragraph to get straight to the review)

Based on Viaje’s well received Exclusivo blend, this cigar was created by collaboration between Andre and Mark Just (owner, Tower Cigars) to commemorate Tower’s 45th anniversary. Although Tower’s true anniversary is not until 2012, the cigars were produced ahead of schedule; so Mark opted to release them early instead of letting them sit for another year. Each year Tower will be releasing an anniversary cigar, although exact blends/vitolas are still up in the air.

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Criollo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 5X52
Production: 100 boxes of 20
Prerelease Purchase Date: April 5th (Contact Tower for more info)

Prelight

Slightly veiny, milk chocolate wrapper. The box press is odd, as it is more rectangular than square. The foot gives off dried fruit, and the cold draw is earthy.

First Third

Initial notes of figs and citrus up front with earth and oak in the background. The burn is off, needing a few touch ups, and the ash is slightly flakey.

Second Third

Burn improved, and the ash became solid. The strength increased, with strong oak up front, and notes of figs and cinnamon stick and earth in the background. The lemon zest finish is long and enjoyable.
…Stunning dark grey ash!

Last Third

This has turned from a medium to a strong cigar, packing quite a punch. The upfront flavors are dried fruit, cinnamon and oak, backed up with strong earthy tobacco. Great long lasting finish of lemon zest.

Closing

Although I did enjoy this cigar, I didn’t notice the same balance found in the Chiquito or the original (Jar Release) Exclusivo….At times, the subtle notes were overpowered by the strength. Obviously this cigar is still on the young side, and will round out over time. I do know that the Jar Release improved significantly with some age, so I feel that this will be a really nice cigar to let rest.

Thanks so much, Mark!

Nice review... this is probably one Viaje LE that I'll pick up as Tower is my favorite B&M, actually the only B&M I'll buy from.
