  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I just had an Esteban carreras habano robusto, I bought a few of them from the local B&M which happens to be the home of the Esteban Carreras line. I have been picking up cigars that are the house blend from all of the local shops just to try them out and see if there are any hidden gems around.

size: Robusto 5 1/2x52
filler: Nicaragua
binder: Nicaragua
wrapper: Nicaragua

Pre-Light:
Gorgeous habano wrapper, oily, silky, with a few small viens but not worth noting over all gorgeous appearance. the smell of the cigar is what a cigar should be, strong cedar and tobacco that lingers in your nose. The feel is firm with some give, ideal in my opinion. I cut the triple cap with my palio, and the draw is perfection not loose but not plugged. Distinct tobacco flavors on the pre-light draw but that was about all.

First 3rd:
With the anticipation building from all of the good signs on the pre-light, I used my xikar lighter to toast and light the foot, the initial few puffs were bland but I expected it to turn like many do, but it never did it was very bland in the first 3rd almost like smoking paper, there was some nutty hints but nothing really distinct.

Second 3rd:
Almost the same as the first, really no distinct flavors, i cought some woodiness mixed in but no real change...once again bland.

Final 3rd:
the final third is where things started to change, and really get some flavors from this stick. the nuttiness became more like apparent, toasted almonds. a distinct black licorice flavor blasted through and the tobacco flavor is what finished it off. Unfortunately the good flavors came through way too late for me.

Summary: The cigar has everything going for it before you light it. and once you do it looses all its appeal until it's way too late. they make a big deal about it scoring a 90 in Cigar Aficionado (which i don't put much weight on)
but this cigar is, at best, a yard gar and maybe an ok stick to take to the golf coarse when your focusing more on your game than you are on the stick.

Consensus:For 7.50 I'll take an Oliva V lancero all day long and leave this to rot in THEIR humidor. I will be trying some other Esteban cigars but my expectations will be low.
