  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

you guys ever use them?

I used to have a couple of thick paper ones that were inserts from a cigar magazine. Lost them, so I want some more.

I have been thinking about getting a bunch printed for promotional purposes. I always liked having one around, and was pissed when I lost them (which means my wife threw them away while cleaning the house)

some have thwe black printed circles, others have the holes. What do you like?

it should have a ruler.

I am also thinking about printing some cigar storage tips on the ring gauge cards.

Any ideas or opinions?

i saw a nice metal one with a wood handle, but $60 is too much to pay for a gadget. i am thinking cheap. i would rather have a few that cost very little

I still have the tear out one from the old soft cover Cigar Aficionado Pocket Guide, The thing has seen better days though, I could sure use a new one, or a few to hand out. Can offer it up on loan as a template if needed. It has lasted well just got bent up in a move.

Wknd.

get em cheap, printed on corrugated cardboard with holes punched in displaying gauges. Get a ruler printed on the side. Storage tips, gauge guide and helpful hints printed inbetween lines on gauges.

Now, for the challenge, figure out to do all that and make it wallet-sized. Seriously though that may work! Make it black with white writing, although it'll probably be cheaper with black writing on white, black would look cooler ;^)

I converted ring guage to circumfrance and measured them out on a piece of paper. Now I just wrap it around a cigar to tell the ring guage and it fits in my wallet.

The credit card thing had me thinking... could you do this with sort of a slide rule concept on a cc sized card of plastic or laminated paper/tagboard?

Just place the 'Gar on the card and slide the rule up against the edge... then a window or something would readout the guage.... dunno... just a thought.

Another way to do it would be to print a "target" shaped graphic with color coding so that you cover up to a certain color and each color correlates with a guage... if you printed these you could effectively "stack" different sizes into one area instead of making separate holes for each.

Just tossing some stuff out there... I wouldn't mind something handy that would do this job... count me in if it's clean, durable, and cost effective!

When I really care (which isn't very often) I just go to my toolbox and pull this out to measure with:

Convert to 64ths and there you go: ring gauge!

I had one made in steel when I started out smoking lost it somewhere it had holes for the ring gauges and a ruler on the side I think it was around 6 inches long. I got the template off the net lemme see if I can find it again.

Edit: found it was on the famous site all along
