BoM August 2010/2011
This past Saturday night while at Federal Cigar in Portsmouth, a number of BOTL had the pleasure to hang with a number of cigar manufacturers, including Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. After sitting around, smoking and talking for much of the evening, Ernesto had a surprise for all of us. He broke out a bundle of the upcoming 2011 Short Run cigars. I don't have too much information on the blend, if I recall correctly, the wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano. The size that we received was a toro, I believe it is 6x52.
The wrapper is fairly oily, and has some slight veins in it, but they are not too big. The construction is solid, and has no soft spots, and has a well formed triple cap. After a quick clip of the head, the pre-light draw offers a clean tobacco flavor, with a little spice and a slight pepper burn on the lips.
The first third of the new Short Run has a woody flavor, with light caramel mixed within. There is also a little spice and pepper on the back of the throat. The burn is fairly straight, providing a nice white ash.
Moving into the middle third, there is more of a cedar flavor, mixed with cinnamon. A little burn of pepper still hits the back of the throat. There was a little touch up needed with the burn, most likely due to all of the travel this cigar has done recently, but it wasn't bad at all.
The Short Run ended with a flavor of toasted cedar (not a burnt taste though). Mixed within the cedar, was cashew, cinnamon, and the same pepper as before. The burn kept true, and continued to produce a white, somewhat flaky ash. Overall, a medium to medium-full strength cigar.
I have one more of these, and cannot wait to see how it is after a little rest in the humidor. This was a very good cigar, and cannot wait to smoke another again. Overall burn time was about 2.5 hours, which surprised me...but then again, I didn't really want it to end.
