BoM August 2010/2011
I had been in Texas a few times last month, and on one of those trips, I was able to meet up with Luke (benzopyrene) in Houston. We had a chance to hang out for a few cigars and some drinks at a great cigar bar (the ONLY one in Houston, btw), called Downing Street. Well, Luke had smacked me with a couple of great cigars, one of which was an unbanded Fausto. He had gotten a couple, and offered me one. So, I kicked off the month of July with this one.
As I am sure all of you know this cigar is based on the T110 blend. It is available in four different sizes. This one happens to be the FT127, which is the 5 x 54 robusto. I couldn't do a Fausto review without taking a family picture. Here is the Fausto FT127 with its smaller, but older brother, the T110 (OR).
The Fausto has a dark, oily wrapper, with some noticeable veins. Very firm feel in the hand. Well constructed with a perfect triple cap at the head. The veins combined with the dark wrapper make it hard to tell where the seams are, unless you really look hard.
After a quick clip with my Palio, the pre-light offered up a leathery blast of pepper. Strong enough to clear out my sinuses. The cigar takes a little to light, as ligero burns slower, but the flavors are tremendous. The first third is full of leather and that strong pepper (which calmed down 1/4 inch in). Mixed within were bits of oak, cocoa and coffee. The almost razor straight burn offered a tight, white ash.
The middle third of the cigar still had a dominant leather flavor. The woody flavor that had been in the background previously, came more to the front. The Pepper had calmed down more, and was mixed with cocoa and coffee. I ash usually from third to third, and you can see I basically broke it off going to the second third...it held pretty strong.
The Fausto ended with a strong woody flavor. The leather and pepper flavors that had dominated the start now were mixed within the background. The ash still holds strong, but was getting a little flaky.
I really enjoy the T110s, and had been excited about the Fausto, as it is going to be regular production. This cigar didn't disappoint at all. Definitely a box buy...especially to see how this one changes with some age.
Overall smoke time was 1:50.
