  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm sure that you have seen the post related to the 9/11 cigar, to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. The cigars are now available at Casa de Montecristo in Chicago.

From TopQualityCigars.com:

In tribute to the fallen heroes of 9/11 and in the spirit of remembrance, honor and hope My Father Cigar Company and Casa De Montecristo join to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the 343 fallen Firefighters of 9/11. Presenting our special limited production blend of My Father Cigars, with 9 Ecuadorian Habano Rosado and 11 Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro in each box. 343 Boxes were produced to honor the 343 fallen Firefighter Heroes.

This whole process has been very secretive; Jeffrey Holst, a Battalion Chief from Firehouse No. 1 in Lombard, IL brought to us the idea of doing something special to commemorate the 343 fallen Firefighters of 9/11. We approached Jaime Garcia with this idea and he graciously accepted to blend and create this highly special extremely limited cigar, each box will contain 9 Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapped cigars and 11 Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapped cigars. The size best described as a Toro 5 1/2" x 54. This will be a special size created by Jaime just for this cigar. $40.00 from the sale of each box will be donated to a designated charity of the fallen heroes of 9/11, these cigars are rich complex with medium to full body, everyone will enjoy, so buy them while they last.

I had an opportunity to smoke one of the Habano Rosado cigars with Sam, Mike and the rest of the crew at Casa yesterday while they were unpacking them. Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared to review it right then, but I will try to post a review for that one soon. I was really impressed with it ROTT. This review will be on the Oscuro Oscuro version, which I just finished smoking.

The wrapper has a nice shine to it, and the cigar feels firm in the hand. Upon cutting, the Oscuro 9/11 has flavors of leather and pepper. Flavors of leather and a strong pepper dominate the first third. A light flavor of cocoa mixes in the background. The burn line gets a little off, but corrects itself, and produces a light grey ash.

Moving into the middle third, the leather drops into the background. At the forefront, cocoa and pepper produce a wonderfully balanced flavor. There is some slight cinnamon and cedar mixed within the pepper in the background. The burn runs true, and the ash holds on pretty much to point where it moves to the final third.

Leather comes back to the forefront in the last third of the cigar, along with some solid cedar flavor. Pepper was still present, but mild to start, but it quickly ramped up as the cigar burned to the end. The burn line remained fairly sharp, while the ash was a little more loose and slightly darker in color than the beginning.

I was very impressed with both of the cigars from the 9/11 box ROTT. They seem to have great potential develop nicely with a little time. This tribute lasted just over 90 minutes.

Thanks for the review Jere. Hurley had smoked one and gave me one as well, we both enjoyed very much. No big deal, but I was surprised there was no band on it; I thought I'd seen it advertised with a My Father band.

Thank you again for a great "Roach-klip" write-up. I've smoked the Habano but not the Oscuro yet. Admittedly, the Habano was like my 5th cigar for the day and I think my palate was shot... but I do remember thinking that it needed some time to rest. I didn't get that "rest" from your review although you're obviously talking about the Oscuro... I need to light these up soon.
