BoM August 2010/2011
So I am sitting at Casa de Montecristo right now, getting some work done. A little later, Pete Johnson will be here for the Official Launch Party for the Wolfman. The cigar I will be reviewing was actually smoked yesterday. They had arrived at CdM on Monday.
The Wolfman is the fourth release in the Monster series. The cigar is a 7 1/2 x 52 box-pressed torpedo. It features a Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, with a short (maybe half inch long) uncovered foot of only filler tobacco. The wrapper is somewhat toothy, veiny, oily and splotchy.....a real beastly looking thing. Truly fit for this Monster release.
With a cut of my Palio, the head comes right off the Wolfman. Prior to setting the Monster aflame, it has a taste of tobacco leaf and a little pepper. I can smell barnyard coming from the wrapper itself. There is a pepper bomb from the first half-inch, where there is no binder or wrapper. The flavor in the first third is comprised of oak, mixed within is a sweetness/tanginess that I cannot exactly figure out. Cinnamon, nutmeg and a little pepper mix within the background.
The burn is fairly straight, and produces a dirty grey/yellow ash. The cigar produces a fair amount of smoke as well. About 2 inches of ash fell right before I took this pic.
Moving to the middle of the Wolfman, Oak is still the dominant flavor, along with bits of cedar. Cinnamon and a little black cherry round out the flavor. The burn is almost straight as a razor.
This Wolfman finishes with oak still the dominant flavor, but it was more of a charred oak....not unpleasant though. Cashew provided a little balance to the flavor, while cedar and cinnamon provided a great aftertaste on the palate.
Overall, I thought the Wolfman was a fairly good cigar. It had some moments that reminded me a little of the Boris. I do think that this cigar may need a little bit of rest, but I did smoke this practically ROTT. Overall burn time was about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
