3/5King
Shwing!
Unbanded Review 7:35am Sunday 8/31/2014 (Sorry for the poor pictures)
Nice weight, triple cap, fairly smooth wrapper with a few prominent veins.
Looks to be about a 52x5 Robusto
A light musty cedar off the foot
Firm roll, consistent throughout
Nice pre-lit draw; Good resistance. Nothing much but cedar coming through on the cold draw.
Perfect draw, tons of smoke, creamy, sweet cedar, straight burn
Has a great aroma.. Makes me put the cigar sideways to my nose and smell the trails of smoke traveling along the cigar after a draw. Probably the best aroma I've ever encountered. Soft and slightly toasty.
Medium strength. Not very peppery.
I'm pairing this cigar with water and some Delta Blues. It's 7:48am Sunday morning and I haven't eaten since 11:00 PM so nothing to distort or mask flavors.
At the first inch; still cream and sweet cedar. There's some richness and body to the cream though. A little peanut comes through when I take a bigger draw and let it Linger out the nose.
Nice white ash, with a soft gray gradient. Held on to over an inch but I tapped it off just in case.
Second third, more of the same to start. Medium body/medium strength there is a richness building. Still cream with a light buttery peanut and tons of smoke.. Perfect draw. Spice picks up just a bit.
Spice picks up quite a bit at the end of the 2nd third. The spice has overtaken the creamy peanut as the main flavor but it mixes in well and the strength has picked up to full.
Getting into the final third is awesome. I didn't expect the transition and the amounts of smoke is ridiculous. The strength has evened out to medium/full. There was just a few draws right before the transition that really gave me a ride, I actually laughed at the quick hit of strength ( because I enjoyed the buzz lol)
The spicy pepper is still dominating the soft creaminess, faint cedar and peanuts that controlled the first two thirds. Thinking back (and still present in the background) there's a thickness of malted milk to the creaminess.
The burn has become uneven by about a half inch.
The peanut now tastes roasted/toasted and bounces back and forth in a fight for dominance with the peppery spice.
I ended up touching up the uneven burn.
I love it, every time I draw it's a mystery if I'll get the spice or roasted peanuts through the retro hale. The creaminess seams to have disappeared. The spice seems to Carry along with it a pine/cedar note getting into the nub.
It's hard to smoke slowly with how much I'm enjoying reviewing this cigar. The cigar has remained cool right down to the end. The flavors have remained and have been extremely enjoyable right down to the finger tips.
(Note for new smokers; you have to smoke slowly or in my belief you will ruin the cigar early and destroy the subtleness to the flavors throughout the smoke session. Take time, draw slow, keep the cigar cool, sit back and let the cigar take you for a ride)
Smoke time: 1hr 20min
Summary: I nubbed this cigar... I don't do that often anymore. There were only a few flavors but they were clean and rich on the senses. The cigar smoked beautifully, other than the one burn issue in the final third. TONS of smoke, a nice creamy roasted peanut throughout, finishing with a peppery crescendo.
Scoring (using a cigar reviewing sheet found online)
Overall Appearance and Presentation: 17/20
Lighting and Burning Properties: 12/15
Construction Properties: 30/30
Taste Properties: 31/35
Score: 90/100
With thanks to Joe45 who was kind enough to send me this unbanned cigar for review. I had a great time reviewing it/smoking it. I have my guess as to what it is but will wait to jump to any conclusions.
