  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well, I smoked this one at work today. This is another cigar provided by the Dog Watch Cigar Club. This cigar was made at the Flor de Copan factory in Honduras, made from Nicaraguan and Honduran filler and a Nicaraguan wrapper. A single cigar ranges from $4.50 to 6.00 and a box ranges from $83.00 to $110.

This cigar has a nice medium brown, oily wrapper. Some veins, but no construction issues noted. Nicely applied cap. Pre-light hints of spice and dark roasted coffee. After cutting this with my Palio cutter, pre-light tastes of nice black pepper, espresso and a nuts were present. The pre-light draw was wonderful with no restrictions noted.

I toasted this with my Dupont lighter, noting the ease this cigar lit. I noticed immediately a burn issue, which I corrected. The aroma from this cigar was very pleasant with the perfect balance of spice, leather and toast. I noticed a sweetness which reminded me of a cross between honey and pecan pie. The ash on this cigar was flakey and a medium grey color. It remained tight on this cigar, until I noticed a slight draw issue. I simply ashed the cigar and the restriction left. I did notice the burn issue reappear. It seemed the burn was beginning to canoe, so I had to correct the burn.

The flavors remained in the second third. The toast was added with a leather flavor, as well as the nice spiciness. One of my deputies noted the great aroma. Huge plumes of smoke emitted from this cigar, but the burn issue remained.

The final third, I noticed a sour flavor begin to develop. I cannot describe the flavor other than an oversteeped, sour black tea. The spice, leather, toast and sweetness remained, but seemed to be over powered by the sourness. Also, the burn issue continually caused me to relight this cigar. My patience, or rather lack thereof, got the better of me and I tossed this cigar.

I enjoyed the cigar at the beginning, but lost some of the passion due to the burn issues. I would try another one of these cigars, but would not go out of my way to go to my local B & M and buy one.

Hope this review helps.

These have always crossed me as a very black and white cigar. Some people really love them, and some hate them. It is good to see an objective review and I thank you for it.
