  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I have never been much of a rum drinker except for the occasional mojito in the summer, but I was hanging out with a friend the other day he pulled out an eight year old rum, not sure what it was, to drink while we smoked a RyJ Duke. I was surprised at how good it was straight.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good aged rum to add to the bar?

Zaya is a fantastic sipping rum - a bit on the sweeter side - I always have a bottle stashed away in the cigar lounge. Appleton Estate, Ron Zacapa and Gosling's Black Seal are other favorites of mine.

I'm not big on the flavored rums, way way too sweet IMHO.

I like the zaya, zacapa is good especially if you can find the guatemala made stuff, HC7 & barrel proof, appleton 12 and older, el dorado 12, mount gay xtra old and I'm sure there are some others.

Matusalem Gran Reserva, Havana Club 7 or Anejo or Barrel Proof, are all good. You should be able to find the Matusalem in the states. Probably not so lucky on the havana club...

Digging the diplomatico after having some the other night with guys at the burning leaf. Before that I was a huge Zacapa 23 and XO fan. Ive heard great things about Zaya and have a bottle sitting in an online shopping cart right now. Id like to try appleton 21 and 30 though. Cheers!

As far as sipping rums I keep a staple of four on hand all of the time. Matusalem Gran Reserva, Zacapa 23, Eldorado 12 and Zaya.

As far as mixing rums go I have pretty much settled in with Matusalem Classico. It's good stuff and very reasonable where I get it at $14.99 a 750 size bottle.

That Diplomatico is the shit. I think alot of guys that sip the others would be shocked. And for what the guys at the leaf picked up the case for was like stealing it(online).
