Size: Corona ( 5 1/2 x 44 )
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade Grown Ecuadorian
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua
I bought a few singles of these awhile back and forgot about them until today. I noticed the aluminum tubes in the back of my singles box so I figured to give one a try.
This corona is very nice looking with a good presentation in the tube. It has a veinless, light brown wrapper offset by a classy red, white and gold band. The roll seemed medium firm with no hard or soft spots and it had a smooth pre-light draw.
After clipping and lighting I noticed a nice nutty and woody taste for the first 1/2 inch. The flavors quickly changed though - to a vegetal / coffee bitterness which lasted through the first third of the cigar. The second third had the bitterness fading - to be replaced by that sweet, woody and nutty flavor that started the cigar. This didn't last long however as the halfway point saw the bitterness return with a vengence. This flavor really was not agreeable with my tastebuds so I gave this cigar a quick burial in my ashcan.
It's been quite awhile since I had this brand, but do remember that I did enjoy them on occasion a few years back. Not sure if the blend has changed or if this was just a bad one. The construction was good though as the burn was very even and it produced a decent amount of smoke.
Hopefully the other one I have is from a different batch. If nothing else I have a nice aluminum tube I can use for carrying singles around ...
