  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Just curious if you all have any reccomendations for me. Here's what I like McCallen 12 and 18. I dont have a lot of experience, but would like to expand my horizens. I am not a big peat fan, so if its peatty please dont reccomend it. Price range $40 to $200 a bottle. Cheers!

I really like the dirty peatty stuff, so I'm not much help. Have you tried the macallan cask strength? 54 proof I think and is not filtered, so if you add and ice cube it gets cloudy. I like and only about $50

I agree with Ray about The Glenlivet Nadurra (especially the 1991 Vintage). Dave has a great point about The Macallan Cask Strength....great scotch. Also, you might want to try Highland Park. Another really good scotch is Aberlour A'bunadh. And my go to is Cragganmore....it's the first scotch I ever had. They have a "Distiller's Edition" out which is very good.

And I do like the peaty stuff too. Laphroiag has one that I really like...Quarter Cask. Very peaty, smells like old-school Listerine. But it doesn't taste like it at all.

You know, The Glenrothes was probably the next one I was going to try. Heard great things about it. Thanks Dave!

I don't like peaty scotch either, but ALWAYS find I enjoy this brand.

Luke, I have a copy of Michael Jackson's (not the one you think) Complete Guide to Single Malt Scotch, if you would like to borrow it.

Excellant reference guide by the way!

Try Isle of Jura Superstition, it's a marriage of "3" different single malt's (7,13 & 21 yrs old) in one bottle and it does include some pettiness!

I'm just starting to get into whiskey too. So far the ones I've liked are Jonny Walker Black and Jameson 12-year, both blends (and Jameson is Irish). The base is limited in their selection of Single malts (like 2) but I plan to try both of those too.

njstone, when you go to Japan, you'll be able to find some Japanese Whiskies....supposedly they make some good ones. Never had any though.
