  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Xikar sent me some to replace some old ones I had that never worked right, this is how I had to setup the new "pre calibrated" hygrometers:

1.Place new hygrometer in a sealed bag with a boveda pack
2.Wait a day or so until you are confident that the hygrometer has adjusted and is reading the humdity
3.Note that the hygrometers are all over the place and are in the range of +/- 7 off from the correct RH even though Xikar guarantees +/- 3
4.Since you don't want to be bothered by paying to ship these back to xikar and wait another couple weeks to repeat this process, continue to step 5
5.Make a note on a small piece of paper as to how far off the hygrometer is from the correct rh
6.Tape said piece of paper to the hygrometer
7.Place hygrometer in humidor

LOL...precisely why I no longer buy Xikar hygrometers. The Hygroset IIs take a little more time to calibrate but I actually trust the readings that I get from them.

Love my Xikar cutters and lighters but i'm going to have to give another vote to Hygroset II... Test, Set & DONE!

Also Xikar just posted a video last week on Youtube that is an "Hygrometer/Humidification FAQ" where they give you a full run-down:

Wow. I bought one these and just did a full review on it. Mine was spot on...Reading this and a post that was recently left I am wondering if I was a bit lucky?

In regards to step 4, just walk into a B&M and swap it out for free. No real hassle as you likely go there any way. Regardless of Xikar's claims of being ready out of the box, I would still do a salt test for obvious reasons.
