Folks, we're going to need a bigger boat.
I cut into my first A. Fuente Anejo "Shark" ('09 release) today.
Prelight draw had a nice nutty sweetness that was a only a small hint of the flavor bite to come. The construction was slightly loose and springy, the wrapper was as toothy as they come - a gorgeous dark maduro cigar.
Upon lighting, I was struck not with an overwhelming blast of spice. Instead, it seemed like I started right in the middle of a great cigar. Lots of big flavors - caramel, cocoa, cream and raisin sweetness. Some of the best initial puffs I've experienced.
And it only got better. As the stick progressed, some more savory flavors started to appear, mixing well with the sweetness, which switched to more of a graham cracker taste after about a third. The burn was a bit wavy, but nothing too concerning. Spice was present, but never blasting.
Things really mellowed out by the end and this just became a very nice medium with lots of the original flavors still playing on the palate.
One of my favorite smokes of the year so far.
Score: 92
