  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Totally inspired/hacked from the *purchase* thread, I thought I'd start one on creations. If you're willing, include the recipe (I am always looking for new drink ideas since I don't always want to drink just a straight spirit or beer).

Here's my first - it's vodka coffee. I like to make cold brewed coffee and, a few months ago as I was making a batch of it, I though, "I wonder what would happen if I made the coffee with vodka instead of water?"

It's wonderful! I tried mixing it with several things to no avail (it curdles the hell out of Bailey's, BTW). So my wife suggested using cream soda and that was a brilliant idea! You can't use that crappy, pink, overly sweet, "pretend" cream soda - use the traditional vanilla-flavored cream soda.

Here's my second one and only for serious hotheads!

It's my pepper vodka. I took two Habanero peppers, cut them in half, and let them sit in a liter of (cheap) vodka for about 45 minutes. Capsaicin is alcohol-soluble, so vodka is incredibly efficient in pulling the oil out of the peppers. After 45 minutes were up, I pulled out the peppers, put in a a couple of tablespoons of dried tellicherry peppercorns and 8-10 dried Piquin chili peppers. Let it sit for a couple of days and you get the beautiful golden color from the peppercorns.

Serious heat to this, though, so you don't drink it straight. But if you like a hot Bloody Mary, this stuff is awesome! Next time I do it, I'll probably toss in some hickory or maybe just a few drops of liquid smoke.

BTW, that's one of the re-hydrated Piquin peppers you see in the glass.

That sounds delicious. I came in here to joke about creating DRvodka or something. And I thought I was serious about my liquor
