  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Sorry if there was already a thread on this, I searched but couldnt find one. I was just wondering what everyone's favorite single torch lighter is. I currently have a Xikar EX soft flame, but when its a bit windy I have some problems. Any recommendations would be great, thanks in advance.

I have a Zippo insert. I have had that lighter since I was fifteen. I don't think I could come to buy a different one. Its worn down but we have history together.
The Zippo insert is great. Ronson "Jet Lite", about $3.00 at Walmart, it a damn good single torch lighter too.

The right butane makes the biggest difference to me regardless of the lighter which is why I swear by Vector Butane!

I use a zippo blu, which you can get from amazon.com. Love it. I like the idea of the insert though as I have a few zippos from my military days that I'd love to resurrect. Which insert do you use?

There is only one, the ZPlus Zippo Insert and it's made by Blazer. It only works in a standard Zippo Lighter, they don't make one for the slimline zippo's.

Wouldn't you like to know?
Choices are endless. All depends what you want. Some just want something that works, which would be the Ronson. Cheap works well and if it breaks or you lose it no big deal. Some are sentimental towards zippo. Not that they are bad but you are just buying it as a case and putting a lighter inside. Mine I bought for capacity as I smoke a lot and don't like to refill everyday. Others want a lighter with a little more show appeal which could be your xikars. They come with a great warranty which is a good thing as everyone I have owned has needed it. Finally there are the heirloom quality ones likes DuPont an dunhill when nothing but the best will do. You need to decide what you want out of it before you buy.

Ronson at Wal-Mart for $3 and they even come filled. i will never buy anything else.
+2 here. It is to the point that I check the counter every once in a while to see if they have any just in case I lose one. I like how slim they are too. And they hold quite a bit of butane.

Ronson Jetlite . Though if you're looking for something to use when it's windy you may want to set up to a double or triple flame. The Jetlites get blown around a little when it's windy. I have a Zippo that I got when I went off to college and I want to get an insert for that cause we have some memories together, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Larry mentioned the ZPlus, but there is another one made by Thunderbird. They make both a torch and a soft flame. Plus a pipe insert I think.

Only one torch you'll ever need or want if you're willing to spend the money. S.T Dupont Mini Jet. Lasts for a lifetime and will light in a hurricane. Retails about $125 but then you only live once....

zplus is a beast for ~$10, and if you have a sentimental old zippo lying around it is perfect! they offer them with cases if you look, which would keep you from buying a zippo that you will only use 10% of.
