  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Sitting in the garage this evening having enjoyed dinner with the wife I wanted a simple, straightforward smoke so I reached for one of the remaining five of these sticks and some Sam Adams Winter Ale.

Pre-light draw was filled with aged tobacco and dark cherries.

Clipped the head toasted the foot and the first thin I noticed was how powerful this stick had become. For I do not recall the blast of pepper and rich, chewiness from the fist few of these I enjoyed. Couple this with the volume of smoke this thing puts out and I was like "Oh my damn, I'm in for a blast."

The first third of this was straight octane. This stick was in my face, no complexity, just brute tobacco. My sinuses tingled from the potent white pepper.

The second third was much more enjoyable as the ash remained past the half way point and I began to detect orange peel and some slight cocoa. All the while the spiciness remained predominant. Then something amazing happened...I took a minute to admire the frothy head on my Sam Adams and sipped it ever so slowly only to return to my stick and find it had gone out.

So I purged it, re-lit it and the last 20 minutes was sheer bliss! White pepper and chocolate merged to create a smoother more balanced smoke.

Overall, I would say that this stick has not mellowed with age, if anything, it's gotten harsher and more robust.

Not one of my more memorable Viaje experiences.

Still have two of these left in my humi...Thought they were a great cigar when they came out so I was sorry to read how it dissapointed you with age. I think alot of Padron stuff is like that too. Always seems fantastic when it's freash but looses something with age.
Thanks for the review brother!

Pa,
Thanks for the review. I have one in the humi. It looks like I'll be waiting a little longer to smoke it.

Because of this thread I decided to light one of the few of these I have.

It burned perfectly from start to finish, even considering it had a little bit of foot damage (can't see it in the photo, other side of the cigar). Each ashing left a perfect cone in its wake.

Flavors were along the citrus lines mentioned in the OP, plus the dark chocolate covered cherries (think Christmastime cherry cordials) and roasted nuts (again... like Christmastime chestnuts). However, parts of it were a bit harsh. The last 1.5", for example, burned pretty hot despite my efforts to take spaced out draws.

One thing to note on this... After about the halfway point, I tried it with a small dram of Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix (see here: http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showpost.php?p=922147&postcount=246).

The Daisy Cutter brought this whisky to life in a big way! The scotch on its own is pretty decent, lot of fruit notes. Adding the DC intensified those fruit notes, downplayed the heat (not that there is a lot to begin with, but with the heat of the DC it became entirely muted), and also introduced REALLY STRONG pure sugar. Like granulated sugar you pick up at the grocery store. Just a ton of sweetness all around.

Still ISO, btw... if anyone wants to offload at great exchange rates...
