  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Welcome to the down fall! Nice looking pipe.

The only blend of the one's you listed I've tried is Star of the East, C&D calls is an english blend with 50% latakia, but to me its more of a Bulkan style blend. Latakia usually come from Cyprus or other countries in that region, the tobacco is cured over a fire and has a strong smokey smell and flavor. I would not try this one first due to the heavy amont of latakia.

Abingdon, can't say I've smoked that one either. For a first blend you don't have to go with something dripping with goo like Captian Black there are a few nice natural blends or ones that are lightly cased. There is a Tinder Box on RT 191, their Aalborg & Norse Gold bulk blends are danish blends, aromatic with little to no caseing. Their Coventry blend is a nice mild english blend, light on the latakia a good introduction to english style tobacco. Thats the fun of pipe smoking buy an ounce or two and see what you like.

I have tried the Maltese Falcon, I remember it being a good smoke, very robust and meaty. Strong smelling too. It was the one tobacco my wife would not kiss me after I smoked it.

I have been smoking a pipe every so often ever since I was gifted a Meerschaum. I'm on my way to turning it brown and just picked up my next two ounce of tabachy. I went with dunhill Latakia I think it was this time. Not aromatic but it smells damn good.

I got my 'trade'... Seems donk has 'greased' the slope...

I also picked up some Frog Morton to try out (while picking up some accesories), heard it was good. I'm in no rush, but as the above post indicates - I've already got the next purchase or two layed out!

I hear ya Eodcole - I'm not interested in the aromatics. Probably becasue I'm so into cigars - I guess I kind of equate them to infused cigars & don't like the artificial sweetness.

Some blends I"m told are worth try anyway - Like a Captain Black (seems to be a right of passage).

You have work today? I'm itching to run to Boswells in Chambersburg and think I might head that way today to pick up one his pipes. It is a bit of a drive for you though. Hell it's an hour for me from Harrisburg.
