some genius in my company has decided to schedule an "exceptional customer service" workshop for saturday oct. 27 from 9am-4pm. that conflicts with the home game against nebraska. the email that was circulated indicated mandatory attendance.
I immediately told our HR person that I had a scheduling conflict with a horns' home game. she told me that it was mandatory and that saturdays were the only days were we could take this course. we are expanding and in doing so we are transitioning from a small, intimate company into a mini-corporate robot.
I've always maintained that any company related stuff needs to be done during the week on company time. but some of the new people we have brought in don't share that same sentiment (i.e. our anniversary party should be monday oct. 1st...but they want to have it saturday oct. 6th...bullfuckin'shit).
is it unreasonable of me to have a hard time with this? I've always said I don't have a problem working weekends as long as they aren't during the college football season...hell this past holiday season (thanksgiving to past new year I had a total of 2 days off).
I'm hoping to come to a compromise but seeing as to the duration of the class it's looking like I'll miss the game entirely, even the broadcast:
- have the company reimburse me for my ticket, plus give me two free days off for "pain and suffering"
- say "fuck it" and go to the game
- threaten to resign
any other ideas?
