  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Speaking of Illusione cigars.....

He's not the first person i've heard that believes teh world will end in 2012. Do some research on the Mayan calendar...when does it end?!?!

But Dan at New Havana was right, Dion like to wrap himself up in mystery. Dan says he can never get a straight answer out of him.

Dude makes some seriously good cigars though.

Polar shift would happen over night...
Einstein believed it & so do multiple cultures from around the world.
It's very interesting.

I don't stay up at night worrying about it though.

What is it that they say?
'Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.'

But I just might be on 'vacation' that day...

:peace:

This was discussed on another board, and was kind of interesting. I guess he named all of these smokes after some type of Illusione, mostly religious, mostly Christian. It was said that the cg4 is after the Four horsemen of the apocolypse, the Holy Lance after the Roman spear that pierced the side Jesus while he was on the cross, the 888 is a number that repesents "Jesus" in the Bible, also the book of Revelations has 888 Greek words in it. His new line of smokes is going to be the Cruzado, the word Cruzada means Crusade in english. Has Dion gone off the deepend with a subliminal attack on Christianity? They are his cigars, and his company and this is America, so do what you want Dion, but there are plenty of fish in the sea and plenty that don't publicly take people's beliefs as an ILLUSIONe. Marketing is marketing and I'm a sucker for good marketing. But I never understood companies that alienate a particular demographic in order to impress another. We've all heard that "even bad publicity is good", and the buzz created around this interview has certainly sold afew cigars, it has also gotten several people to just buy other smokes. Myself included. I have one left in the humi, that I got in a gift and will smoke it, but I won't buy anymore. my .02.

Someone on another board pointed out this discrepancy:

My cigars are very structured and component-driven. They are very good right off the table. They are however, built to live a minimum of 10 years box aged...
The world as we know it will end or, at the very least, depart dimensions in late December 2012. That doesn't give me a lot of time to really get creative…

Wow Dave. Who woulda thunk it...being som opinionated about a cigar brand for reasons completely non-tobacco realted. Good for you. Seriously. I think they call those morals, or scrupels, or convictions.

Me on the other hand, think they are damn good cigars, however, you have given me cause to pause and reflect.

i consider myslef Chrstian and if he is indeed attacking Chrsitianity, then i think i might have a problem with him. However, and this is a huge HOWEVER, i just did some preliminary research on the mayan calendar and the whole 12.21.2012 thing. It's quite fascinating and i do believe that i believe in it. THat being the case, the stoic doctrine of the Christian faith would then be nothing but a relatively close-minded religion that refuses to believe in time greater than our own tiny solar system. I've never once in my 33 years of Christianity ever heard anyone talk about a galactic day and night. Christian beliefs would call that The Devil trying to change your thoughts by presenting thought-provoking ideas that differ from God and everything the Bible teaches. It is a trick by Satan to persuade you onto his team.

I've always had problems with many of the close-minded teachings of the Chrsitian chruch, and this little bit 30 minutes of research i did on the mayan calendar really has me thinking and it certainly fits into the very fabric that makes me me. I think i'm really confused right now and i'm questioning a lot of things, which oddly enough, fits right into what the Mayans were sayingwhat i should be doing right now. To weird.

I'm confused.

And who woulda thunk that Dion Giolito could have provoked such thought-stirring ideas through a simple article?!?!

You know, if a cigar maker put out a line of cigars called "Duane's mom is a fucking whore" I'd still buy them if I liked 'em.

'Course, that's 'cuz I've got thick skin and I don't let other people's opinions bother me.

just to be clear, his opinions are his and that is OK by me. We are in America. I am just turned off by his marketing/nameing of his cigars. Basiclly because it seems to kick sand in the face of an entire group of potential customers. This makes me lose repsect for him right off the bat. And to add to that loss of respect he is driving at something I believe strongly in. So even if they are good cigars, there are other good cigars, and I won't be fueling his fire.

Here are couple of good quotes form another board

Love your cigars. Stick to making cigars and stay away from the messages. You will start to alienate people.
someone else said " Good cigars market themselves"

I like that Dion has based his whole line of cigars on such dark subject matter - I've always been fascinated with this kinda stuff - questioning organized religion & authority in general from a young age.

I think that there is a lot of truth in many conspiracy-type theories & the truth often proves far stranger than fiction.

But I also try to base important & even day-to-day decisions on good ideas instead of beliefs...

That said, lighting a Tat J21 tonight is the best idea I've heard yet today...

Is it based on "dark" subject matter? I don't see any reference to witch craft or demonology. It's seems like a juvenile jab at Christianity or at Religion in general. And you can question organized religion as a whole all you want, these are your rights, but for Dion to come out and directly tell someone they believe in a fairytale is his right, but it is also rude. And it alienates a faily large number of people. We do however agree on the Tat for this evening's smoke.

Is he attacking Christianity or embracing it? I mean, if you're naming all your cigars after religious dates/items/symbolism, that could go either way.

A lot of people said the DaVinci code was anti-Christian too because it was historical fiction. Tasty smokes, and unless I find out I'm funding terrorists or devil-worshipers or something, I'll keep buying them.

You know the Myan believed that 2012 represented an end of one period and the beginning of another. This does not neccessarily relate to the end of the world. Only time will tell.

except that the whole line is an "Illusione"
