  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So with the warm weather comes the ol cleaning out the attic/closets/crawlspace/etc.

Question for you guys, how long do you hang on to "stuff"? By stuff, I mean anything that you haven't used in a while, forgot you owned, is out of style etc?

Whats do you use as a rule if any as to when you get rid of something?

I think I've got stuff dating back to the 80's lol. Things especially like clothes. I've got a ton of clothes that I may have worn a few times then back in the drawer/storage area. In addition, I have things like concert shirts from back in the day that I just can't seem to part with.

I seem to rotate my favorite shirts/pants and the rest go sitting. On top of that, I have a closet full of button down shirts that I dont' wear anymore because I don't need to being a chef. I donate the stuff to a local thrift shop a few times a year but I still have a lot of mess. I'm thinking this year, I'm going to go all out and completely clear out everything. I think part of the problem is a large attic lol. G1

After my last cleaning project that was way more intensive than I cared for and took entirely to long, I decided to go with the six month rule. Basically ifI have used it in the last six months, it outta here! There is a little give where seasonal stuff is concerned, but beyond that everything else is getting the "six month" scrutiny.

I've always been one to hang onto something thinking that I shouldn't toss it because I might need that some day. It's amazing how much crap you can accumulate after several years of those "some days"! It's also amazing on that initial "six month rule" cleaning how much stuff went elsewhere.

We do make probably two big clothing donations to the Good Will every year as well.

Surprising how much stuff you can accumulate huh? My wife and I did a big purge when we moved about a year and a half ago. I try to get rid of stuff that I haven't used or had need for in the last 6 months if possible, but some stuff is just hard. I haven't rode my mountain bike in almost two years, but I'm gonna get it fixed up and start riding again...:squinteye. Kids toys are the worst! My son has so many toys it's ridiculous and he's flown through I don't know how many sets of clothes. Good thing we have quite a few friends having kids in the next several months .

Stuff? What stuff? I don't got to much stuff? It only takes me 17 minutes to get from my bedroom to my computer.

I'm also a sheep hoarder.
