  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Who has them and how do you like them? I'm mostly interested in the classic liga and liga 2 designs. I picked one up a few days ago and I love it. I bought a fake first to see if I would really want to drop $400-600 on a lighter and I love the natural flame. I have seen quite a few duponts and I can't believe how good this fake is.

Can't help you on the specific ones you mentioned. I have a mini jet that I use when I'm out and about because it's small and don't notice it in my pocket. I have tons of pricey lighters, but my everyday lighter is a $3.99 Ronson. I have 10 or so and leave them outside, in the garage, in my golf bag, at work, ect. You don't worry about losing them and they work as good as any high end lighter I've ever bought if not better.

I love the mini and maxi jets. Great lighters and simple but elegant. Can't say I have any experience with the soft flame models but friends that have them love them. They are cigarette smokers though.

i recently picked up one of the IM Corona Double Corona soft flame lighters and absolutely love it! I have always used a torch but have recently been gravitating towards a soft flame. The IM coronas work really well and are not nearly as pricey as the Dupont soft flames.

A fake will not hold a flame to a real DuPont... It just can't!

Also it's not a Liga, its Ligne.

The MaxiJets are money.. If you get one try and get the France model.. I hear the newer china models aren't as good.

You would be surprised. I had a 1k dupont in my hand not to long ago and function and materials wise it is impressive how close the two are. Either way it's my first soft flame and totally worth it to see if I actually like it. Now I am on the hunt for a real one after a few days with this one. It's by far my favorite way to light a cigar now.

A friend bought a good fake one (read expensive) and took it to a DuPont shop to get fluid. Shop owner offered him $600 on the spot for it.

I have a hard time justifying paying anywhere near that much for a lighter. I have 5 Colibris that retail for $35- $100 and 2 Bugattis that retail for as much as $170 and didn't pay more than $20 for any of them. They are all nice lighters, purchased from legitimate sources (cbid, unholy cocktail), but I would never have payed retail for them much less sprung $1000+ for a Dupont lighter.

If you have the money and want to spend it that way, more power to you. As for me I would rather buy 2-3 boxes of good cigars.

I have been beyond surprised how expensive they are. At this point I probably couldn't see buying one unless I was able to get a crazy deal. I agree, it's tough to comprehend dropping enough to get 2-3 solid boxes of sticks. My go to lighter was a $40 xikar that I have had for 2 years. It's a champ.

Lighters are used to provide fire to use on cigars or cigarettes etc. As far as whether we want to spend upwards of over $2000 or even more is up to the individual as to let others know what we can afford to make "fire"....because at the end of the day that's all these things do...they make fire, they don't pay bills and they don't do anything other than let others know they are expensive. Do they make a better flame....no...they aren't any better than a really good Xikar Exodus flame because I have 3 of those and 2 ST Duponts. I was foolish enough to buy them and wish I had the money back because....no matter what is said or implied all it does is light things. I collect lighters....I have over 50 of them of all kinds...soft flame, single torch, double, triple and even quadruple flames and using a Ronson or using a soft flame does the same job...save yourselves the money and use it to buy more cigars unless you have enough money to buy whatever you want.
