  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I got an old pipe recently and the stem seems to be stuck in the pipe. I tried turning it - there's some give, but it's still pretty tight, so I stopped as I don't want to snap the tenon off.

I was thinking if dipping the whole thing in warm soapy water as the stem needs cleaning anyhow. After that, I will be grateful for any advice on how to remove the stem without risking the tenon snap-off or damaging the briar.

I'm new to pipes but I'll verify this. Just did this the other day, with some skepticism. Suprise...it came right out.

Good move not hoeing into it! I have broken a stem of in my teeth trying to remove a tight stem, the cooler the better, so the freezer should work. Might have to trhy that myself next time.

Put it in the freezer for a half in hour I bet it pops right out.

I did that. Didn't really pop out - took some work, but it came out in the end. I cleaned the stem, tennon and the corresponding briar part of the pipe and now it slides in and out more easily.
