  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Sticks to bring back from the DR?

Some friends of mine are honeymooning in the Dominican Republic this week and offered to bring me back cigars if I let them know which ones I wanted. Are there nice cigars there that I can't get here easily, or are way cheaper? I'm not going to ask them to get me Cubans. I can't spend a lot of money either, but if there were fantastic deals to be had... They don't smoke enough to know brands to choose for me.

The vast majority of cigars made in the DR are slated for export only and are thus not available for sale. You will find plenty of fake habanos and other expensive tourist cigars though.

Best to just tell your friend to enjoy his honeymoon ...

Having been in the DR this spring I can tell you that if your friends are going to spend time at one of the many resorts for their vacation then all they will see are fake Cohibas being sold by the beach vendors or Very high priced average cigars being sold at the resorts. I brought my own cigars to smoke while there....and thank God for that because I could not have imagined the trip if I was worried about finding cigars while I was there.

To answer your question, ask your friends to have the front desk Rep. to schedule a free tour of the Don Lucas cigar factory, they will come pick your friends up at the resort free of charge and bring them back...the tour is not long and they have a very nice store to purchase cigars from. The have cubans and Fuente cigars there to buy that are the real deal but as I said at very high prices, so have your friends pick you up a bundle of 50 of the cigars rolled there at the factory, you can't find them here in the states and they are very good cigars at very good prices!

They make three sizes or did at the time we were there...corona, robusto, and a churchill. They were working on a new blend while I was there but they would not sell any of them yet.

Don Lucas cigars are what you want your friends to return with from the DR.
