  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This summer I've decided to try out a bunch of microbrews and keep track of how much I like each. So far I've tried:

Flying Dog Raging Bitch (Belgian-style IPA) - 4.5/5
Troegenator Double Bock - 4/5

The Next 6-pack in the beer fridge is:

Heavy Seas Loose Cannon Hop^3 Ale

does anyone have any suggestions for future purchases?

Since it's the dead of summer, I'll stick to IPAs/DIPA. This is a list one should inspire to when it comes to some of the best examples of the style and microbrewers...

1) Alesmith Yulesmith (Summer) IPA
2) Founder's Centennial IPA
3) Pliny the Elder
4) Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA
5) Stone Ruination IPA
6) Bullfrog Edgar IPA
7) Bell's HopSlam Ale
8) Racer X - Bear Republic Brewing
9) Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA
10) Great Divide Hercules DIPA

Most importantly, enjoy the adventure!

I found the Troeggenator pretty thin tasting for a double bock. Been liking Terrapin Brewing's Big Hoppy Monster, Dogfish Head Palo Santo & Bell's Expedition Stout. All pretty strong & full bodied, as I like my beer year round. I only drink 1 or 2 bottles at a time.

That Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA is awesome . Along with IPAs I'm a fan of wheat beers in the summer too. A few local favorites are Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat (they also have a tasty IPA), Schlafly Hefeweizen, and O'Fallon Wheat (also make a decent IPA).

I've been drinking tons of wheat beers this summer. Mostly my homebrews but I also buy Wittekerke, and enjoy Ommegang Witte also. I picked up a case after suggestion from a friend of a tangerine wheat beer from Lost Coast in Humbolt county. It's okay sort of over the top tangerine flavor though.

Since you're in MA and seem to be capable of getting Troegs beers you could try their Sunshine Pils, and the Dreamweaver Wheat. Other good east coast beers would be DFH 60 min (lighter than the 90), look for some Victory brews, Allagash (fantastic beers), and some Smuttynose.

Another place to check out beers from could be Bells for ya they're out of Michigan. There's just so much to mention it's ridiculous.....

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I have a good list to bring with me next time now. Tonight I'll be trying out the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. 1st bottle on its own, second one paired with a cigar. When I get home from work I'll have to look through the humi and find something to go with it.

The Heavy Seas Loose Cannon ended up being good. Paired the second bottle with a Padilla Achilles and enjoyed both. Hopefully I will be able to make it out to a good liquor store early next week and pick up the next batch of microbrews to try.

My microbrew experimentation was stalled temporarily, but the other day my sister came out to visit from WI and brought a six-pack of a beer from a local brewery out there.

New Glarus Brewing Company - Totally Naked

It's a pretty simple beer, but it is a good example of an american pale lager.
Hopefully this Friday I'll be able to get out and buy some more beer for the coming weeks.

Made it out to the store today, came back with:

Stone Brewing Ruination IPA
Allagash Tripel Reserve
Great Divide Hercules Double IPA
Haverhill Brewery Joshua Norton Imperial Stout
DogfishHead 90 Min IPA
Trappistes Rochefort 10

I wanted to grab some Founder's Centennial IPA, but they only had 1 six-pack left, and it was missing a bottle, so I'll get some next time I am there.

I also got a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centinario 23.
Pic of the haul coming tonight probably.

Only one mention of New Glarus so far?:cursing:

If you can get your hands on some, I can just about guarantee you will love it. My favorite is Spotted Cow.
