  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The newest review from over at our Cigar King blog takes a look at the Swag SoBe Edition.

Last year Oliveros cigars launched a secondary company under the name Boutique Blends with Swag being the first release. Fast forward 1 year and 4 new lines later and you have the release of the newest Swag SoBe Edition. The SoBe Edition is an homage to Miami, more specifically South Beach or SoBe for short and reflects the current times in Miami. Loud, bright colors adorn the band on this cigar and the flavor profile is full and in your face. It is exactly what the team at Boutique Blends was looking for when putting together the SoBe Edition. If you’ve ever been to South Beach then you know immediately the color scheme is heavily art deco and this is no different with it’s teal, pink and white adornments. Like the other Swag cigars before it, this is a Dominican puro with some added Dominican ligero in the filler to bring the strength all the way up. With 4 sizes in the lineup, today we will be reviewing the smallest size, the 4 ½ x 48, called the VIP.

SWAG SoBe Edition Cigars

Size: VIP 4 ½ x 48

Wrapper: Dominican

Binder: Dominican

Filler: Dominican

Strength: Full

Flavor: Full

Cost: $6.25/stick or $107.95/box of 20

Appearance: The first thing you notice about the Swag SoBe Edition is the bands. Teal and pink with white highlights are the hallmark of the main band with a secondary “sleeve” style white wax paper band covering the rest of the cigar. Once you remove the sleeve you are treated to a beautiful red-brown wrapper with a very small amount of oiliness. The wrapper has a nice mottled look to it as well without any major veins showing down the length of the cigar. The seams are mostly invisible as well.

Pre-light Aroma: This is a very aromatic cigar before it is even lit! The Swag SoBe Edition has a wrapper that smells extremely sweet, blueberry and sugar sweet. The foot has even more flavors coming off of it with the blueberry shining over the top of sweet tobacco, nutmeg, and coffee beans. An amazing bouquet of scents from this cigar make this very intriguing. The dry draw is not quite as flavorful but has a nice spice on the lips.

From the first puff, the Swag SoBe Edition hits your palate strong, definitely a full bodied cigar. There is a heavy spice on the palate that I didn’t pick up during the pre-light festivities, a white pepper that is easily recognizable. The sweet blueberry scent is very light and provides a wonderful contrast to the spice. The heavy pepper calms down midway through the first third and the sweetness and strength really start to shine. A nutty flavor also made its way to the flavors but very lightly. The burn line stays even and the ash holds for about ¾ of an inch before I tap it off.

Moving into the 2nd third, the Swag SoBe continues to be full bodied and flavorful. The nuttiness has pushed the sweetness to the back and the spice plays on the palate intermittently. The retrohale is full of flavor, this is where the spice really shines. There is also a nice tobacco sweetness through this portion as well. As expected, the burn line has stayed even through this third and the ash is holding strong.

The last part of the Swag SoBe ends like it started. Strong and flavorful with plenty of changes to keep you interested. The blueberry flavor comes in and out throughout the smoke and the spice creates a nice contrast. The nuttiness that picks up in the 2nd third surprised me in a good way. It’s hard to argue that between Swag and Aging Room that Boutique Blends isn’t one of the hottest manufactures today. They are making great smokes at great prices. Another winner with the Swag SoBe makes for 3 great releases this year alone!

Cigar King Staff Quotes:

Josh- “Swag had some kick but this is so much stronger. Heavy meal beforehand recommended strongly.

Gary- “This little guy packs a heck of a punch. Strong and delicious from start to finish.

Kole- “This is what a full bodied cigar should be. Strong enough to make you notice with flavors that make you forget how strong it really is!”

Thanks for the review. I totally have to agree, it has an odd light fruity flavor with a strong spice on the back end. I enjoyed the one that I had a few weeks back except it seemed like it was rolled loose, I had major burn issues. Again, great pics!
