Tabacos Baez Famosos
Size: Robusto - 5 x 50
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Filler: Nicaraguan cuban seed
Smoking time: about 1.25 - 1.5 hrs.
Prelight:
Feel + Appearance: velvety, few veins, nicely done triple cap in Cuban/Don Pepin style. Slightly oily. With a medium brown wrapper.
Smells of barnyard with a bit of cedar and a light pepper at the foot. A good foreshadowing of what's to come.
Cold draw: cedar, a sweetness, and a light pepper.
Toast the foot, light up and away we go...
BOOM! First third starts off with a big black pepper kick. Nice and spicy with a creamy smoke that coats the inside of my mouth with pepper. After about 3/4ths of an inch it mellows into some cedar/earth with the aforementioned pepper still there.
The ash holds great. A solid 1 - 1.5 inches before it casually drops into the Stinky.
The second third continues to mellow. Much less pepper now, with cedar and earthy flavors. Pretty mild-medium IMO. This sticks through the whole second third and continues a bit into the final third. This was a little boring to me, but allowed me to relax and watch some of my TV show without having to pay too much attention to flavor.
I gotta break the second third into two parts. A barely noticeable sweetness, a little cocoa, and the earthy flavor continues that is, until we hit just before the band.
As we hit the band, the pepper picks up again and we're back to where we started. A nice black pepper kick that lingers on the tongue and throat and is powerful on the [nasal] retrohale.
Overall, I enjoy this cigar and I'm really glad I picked up a box. They typically go for about $99 a box on Famous, but I picked up a box for $50 on a box split with JC (gardizzle). Just checked Famous and it looks like they are still buy a box, get a box free.
So at about 5 bucks a stick they're definitely a good cigar, and at $2.50 a stick, they're even better.
I say pick some up if you get the chance. Completely worth it.
