Until hogfarmer hooked me up with this cigar I had no idea it even existed. But the Tatuaje TAA Exclusive 2011 quickly turned into a cigar I will not soon forget.
Appearance: The Tat TAA Exclusive 2011 is a pretty rough looking cigar. It has a pretty veiny Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with an uncut/shaggy foot. The color of the wrapper is a milk chocolatey brown. And the cap is as somewhat sloppy triple cap. Like many things though, you cannot judge this book by it's cover.
Flavor: The cold taste after cutting was a taste I have not experienced from a cold taste before. A very rich and distinct molasses flavor comes through with licorice sweetness as well (ALL FROM A COLD TASTE!!!).
1st Third:
The initial puffs of this cigar are almost too complex. There is a bit of harshness on the palate that settles in after a few puffs. The cold taste flavors that were so intense come through now in a very nice manner. There is a huge burst of molasses followed by black licorice sweetness that is balanced perfectly by a cedar note and a leathery finish. So far, this unknown for me is a real treat!
2nd Third:
The cigar is not burning as well as I would like but that is almost fully due to the fact that I smoked it on the golf course. Either way, it is really hitting it's complex stride. The harshness is all gone and there is intense dark chocolate flavors mixed with molasses still. This gives way to an oak and cedar note balanced again with a leathery and now earthy finish. The mouthfeel is very thick and it is billowing smoke like the stacks of the Titanic!
Final Third and Finish:
The sweet notes of the first two thirds are almost all gone. The cigar is pouring even more smoke now than before. Earth, cedar and leather dominate the palate. This medium bodied smoke is finishing like an absolute dream, although the nicotine kick is not quite where I expected it to be. Retrohaling does reveal a touch of bittersweet chocolate but again mostly subdued. This cigar did not dry out my mouth at all and in fact made it water quite a bit. This cigar ended too soon with a smoke time of about 1.5 hours.
The Tatuaje TAA Exclusive 2011 is still a cigar I do not know much about but it is certainly an intriguing smoke. The complexity it showed throughout the smoke must lend to wonderful aging. I would recommend this cigar for sure.
I would love to know more about this cigar, and more about the newest releases in this line, and maybe where I could get some more of the 2011's!! Thanks again hogfarmer!!
