Tatuaje Boris – A review from the course
So a buddy invited me out to play Fort Washington Country Club (mentioned in the movie Tin Cup for anyone that remembers) yesterday and knew I wouldn’t get a cigar in last night, so decided to re-visit the Boris on the course since my golf game sucks right now anyway.
Appearance – The Boris will not win any beauty contests with its construction, but my eyes light up when I see them because I know what I’m going to get from the experience.
* I noobishly dropped this while getting everything for my round and cracked the head and part of the wrapper tore off.
Pre-light - Some spice on the lips with a bit of mint, but has mellowed out some since the last time I had one. Draw was perfect.
First 1/3 – The Boris took a little while to get going, but eventually produced some good smoke with flavors of leather and almonds. Burn started off pretty good, with a light grey ash. One thing I noted was how the spice on the lips has mellowed out. The first Boris I had after release, damn near numbed my lips.
Second 1/3 – More smoke was produced here and the flavors became more of a minty spice, with a slight bit of leather in the background. Burn wasn't the greatest here, but didn't become a problem either.
Third 1/3 - Still a good amount of smoke here and flavors of almonds and leather again with a creamy mint finish. I expected the Boris to become harsh in the final third due to its fast smoking time(a little more than 90 minutes), but it thankfully never did. The wrapper did crack a little here, but probably due to me dropping it earlier and/or sitting in my Cigar Minder clip.
This cigar simply amazes me every time I smoke one, as it just keeps getting better. As I was smoking it, I was trying to compare it to the Frank I recently smoked. And although I still would probably pick the Frank over the Boris given the choice, value wise, I'd say the Boris. Not that the Boris is easy to find or a value.
For those that care about ratings, I'd say this is in the 93-95 point range.
If you can find 'em, grab 'em.
