  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Tatuaje la Maravilla!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been wanting to try one of these cigars ever since I saw them on good ole vitolas.net. I kept reading great things about them, and after leafandale told me they were long gone I figured it would never happen. Well, now it’s a reality, and so far it’s a pretty fantastic reality at that. This cigar had a beautiful toothy naked natural wrapper that extended to cover the foot with a slight crack over the foot and a small one in the middle of the wrapper. The ash was light grey and cracked showing decent combustablitity throughout, however it was not tremendously sturdy and ashed itself about every ¾ of an inch. The draw was flawless like a smoothie that has been blended to perfection without any residual ice cubes to clog things up. It burned evenly throughout and the smoke was thick and aromaticly pleasing to myself and the ants whose senses I kept messing up. The cigar started out very full bodied with a strong woody core accented with flavors of tea and fresh tobacco, a combination that was a little unusual, but was very pleasing on the palate. I found the flavors in this smoke to be very consistent throughout, and the only thing that changed was the strength as it mellowed out into a very smooth med/full bodied smoke. It was a dry smoke and complemented my Long Hammer IPA nicely. It went out on me once in the middle and had a few spots of harshness, but they quickly subsided and didn’t phase me a bit. I smoked this bad boy until it began to burn my fingers, and it finished the way it started strong and flavorful, leaving me with nothing but a good flavor on my palate and the memories to boot. I truly can’t wait to smoke another one of these in a few years to see how they age.

the hype went like this......Imagine a beautiful woman lighting up and discovering there is nowhere to put her ash and then you pull out this ashtray and lay it on the table for her to use..........

So far, all I've gotten was a bunch of ball bustin' from my buddies.

Now for the cigar.....nice review. It looks delicious.

How do you do your point ranking system?
When I first started smoking I came up with a system that I thought covered all the things one should look for in a cigar, and I've tweaked it a little over the years. It works well for me, and I really enjoy doing it... This is basically how I break it down.

1. Appearance- How does the cigar smell before its smoked/ How does the cigar look to you? How is the texture? the color? the shape? its appeal? any damages? or patches? etc etc (Points 15)

2. Ash- is it sturdy? color? texture? demonstative of good construction? (Points 10)

3. Draw- how is the draw? tight? loose? draws can change throughout the cigar. (Points 10)

4. Burn- Does the cigar burn even the whole smoke? Semi-even? One side have problems? How many times did it need to be re-lit because it went out on you? (Points 10)

5. Smoke- Is the smoke scant or thick? is it aromatic? is it visually pleasing? Is it representative of the draw? (Points 10)

6. Flavor/Blend- What do you taste? Look for a core flavor, and then find the hints about it. Does it change at the half? does it change every third? are the first two puffs incredible followed by a total let down. This is where you can develope your palate! (Points 20)

7. Uniqueness- how unique was this cigar compared to others you have smoked? Was the profile different? How so? Newer smokers will usually have higher scores in this section because they havent smoked as many cigars, but maybe you will be tremendously surprised by my selections. (Points 10)

8. Finish- How did the cigar end? This is so important because if it doesnt leave you relaxed or it begins to become really hot or bitter then that can ruin a smoke. Did it leave you feeling like you were in a different place? Was it smooth? Did you smoke the whole cigar or leave half of it? (Points 15)

I've got a couple, trying to decide when to light one up. If anyone's interested I've found a handful at $19 per. PM me for link.

Damn dude, AWESOME review! The nice pics really adds a lot to the post!

I've got one of those ashtrays as well--except mine is filthy--that I use in my smoking room (*cough*garage*cough*).

These were made for Leaf & Ale in Nashville. I would contact them first b/c they probably have the best price. The guy who is selling them for $19 is just about doubling the price or at least that is what I've heard.

Long gone over at Leaf and ale andrew. Believe me I tried to get some there about 6 months ago, but there is a rumor that they are trying to get Pete to do these again, but he is to busy right now. So I guess we'll see.
