  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Tatuaje Mars Attacks Redux 2014

Given to me by Rob aka fourkicksfan at HBHIII (He got it at a Tatuaje event at Goose Island Brewery in Chicago)

This is a fantastic stick right out the gate. The smoke leaves the palette clean. There is a buttery undertone, a nice sting on the retro that fades quickly. Medium strength and the flavor profile is delicate and mixed with pops of spice. The burn line is a gem and the draw perfect amount of restriction. A medicinal note lies in the background. This stick is nice and firm in the mouth. The wrapper is wonderfully even shade of brown and smooth as a baby's butt. The spice comes in about halfway through the retro, building up quickly and falling again like the lines on an equalizer showing the rise and fall of each notes passing. The strength is building and the sweetness ebbs and flows through each puffs passing.

As soon as I draw into the second third I am immediately hit with creamy peanut and a light mint sweetness that I licked off my lips.. What a surprise that was. I can taste orange blossom honey on that puff followed by a spice punch and a light sweetness that fades quickly to a clean finish. The strength has slowly been increasing tick by tick.. Bringing along some spice that starts to itch the throat and a richening of the flavors. Wow the sweetness really picked up over the last few puffs, leaving the honey I was getting a few minutes to fade away. I am impressed at how the profile is constantly changing and morphing as I burn through the second third. It's like my palette is experiencing a little bit of this and that as I move down the buffet line this cigar has laid out.

It just keeps getting better and better as I start the final third... And I feel like it's just gearing up. If you don't take the time to really tune into a cigar, there are SO MANY things you can miss.. It can make a cigar go from pretty good to a work of art in the drop of a dime. Back is the honey and creamy peanut I was picking up before, all finishing clean with no acrid build up on the tongue. The complexity of the ongoing flavors along with the one off flavor notes that slap YA in the face just to leave and never be seen again, make this a cornucopia of deliciousness. It challenges the palette and entertains the mind. The strength is swimming right at the level of full like a fish that hangs below the surface of the water. A floral perfume note just lingered across the palette..

The strength and spice are starting to move up the ladder at a more steady pace as I get into the nub. The floral perfume note is hanging on through the last few puffs. It is light and Un abrasive.. The nub is still cool to the touch and the smoke, warming the senses. The floral note is building which I wasn't expecting but don't at all mind. This cigar is a magical experience for me and I have a great brother and friend to thank, fourkicksfan..thank you from the heart dude.

Deep into the nub and the flavors are rich; floral, creamy, spice that lingers and tingles the tongue and lips, a very light almond sweetness, warming the belly. The smoke leaves the mouth a mix between watering/oily and dry at the top back of the throat. The finish is still clean.. Which makes the experience exceptional. The honey is still roaming around lacing in with the profile. The burn and draw have been a dream, it allows concentration to focus entirely on experiencing the blend, picking apart the profile and taking in all the little nuances that might never be discovered otherwise. Wow.. What an exceptional cigar. The nub, now at about 3/4 inch and getting a little hot between my fingers on the draw, is going to be worked down as far as I can take it...I don't care if I need a first aid kit afterwards..

Smoke time: 1hr 20mins of bliss

Score: 100/100
I had to put her down... It's almost in need of a ceremonial ending lol. It was the perfect time..the perfect mood and surroundings and then there was this cigar.. A one of a kind that brought everything together for an experience that is not to be recreated. I'm sure if I smoked another, it would be fantastic and in all honesty could produce it's own experience, where I enjoyed it just as much but it won't be this one or this experience. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Rob for your generous gift... I gave it the attention it deserved and in return it gave me an experience I won't forget. God damn that thing was tasty and it performed flawlessly.. It was the perfect storm buddy.

Wow. That is a killer endorsement. Makes me want to go home from work right now and light up the one I was gifted. I'm assuming that this one is the 2014 Petemas version not the Mardi Gras. Even though I've heard it's the same cigar.

Here is what Rob sent me for info http://www.cigarmemoir.com/cigar-review-tatuaje-petemas-2014-mars-attack-redux/
(Mine had the closed foot)

Well I hope that it smokes as well for you as it did for me. I enjoyed this stick immensely. Maybe it was the left over endorphins leaking out from HBHIII but it was the perfect smoke. I was hesitant to give it a hundred but between the immaculate construction, the perfect draw, razor burn and a profile that fit my palette to a T oh and the complexity it gave me, all wrapped up with some black coffee, Van Morrision and BOTL chat... The whole experience deserved 100/100.

Awesome review. 100/100 experiences are few and far between!
Yes, I agree and this was my first.. I've had close but the excellent burn and complexity put it over the top for me. Rob had one on the drive home and he said "it was good" lol. To each palette their own and also, I feel this stick needs 100% attention to pull out all the nuances.
